Just removed mine on my 06, disconnected the dash wiring and vent hose as previously stated, took needlenose vise grips and lightly crimped the crossover hose on front bottom of tank, removed the crossover hose from one side of the tank and quickly put a 14" piece of 1/4" hose on the tank side where the crossover hose was removed.  Let tank drain, removed fuel pump fuse, cranked starter a time or two and then disconnected the quick disconnect on the fuel line.  Maybe 10 minutes.

Very very simple job..........Just heavy if full of fuel. Watch your belt buckle, watch band or rings when you lift off. Don't want to scratch that paint.

jean's rivets and zippers too

And have a good level spot with a towel on it to set it down

This gentleman's newer tank will have the benefit of no external crossover line.  Makes the task much simpler and less messy.  On older tanks like yours and mine I always put a quick disconnect coupler in the middle of the crossover line.  No more mess nor fuss that way.

Tanks using the quick disconnect crossover - I used a piece of clear tubing slit open lengthwise to protect the frame paint.

Do the newer tank's quick disconnect have the "non-obtainable" O-rings in them?
