New Engine Chrome Covers - Some field work required
« on: February 18, 2012, 05:06:12 PM »

Felt like doing a little tinkering today. Added 4 new chrome parts.

First was the Chrome Induction Module/Throttle Body Cover PN 61300109.for the Heavy Breather to replace that UGLY black thing. This fit no problem.

Next was a Chrome Starter Cover 66477-10. It's not supposed to fit the 110, but with a slight few mods, it's a great addition to that ugly area without replacing the starter with a chrome one. There is a great step by step pictorial done by another member "Fireguy" here http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=66877.0

Moving to the other side of the engine I thought a chrome Cylinder Base Cover 32077-07  might spruce things up. Again the cylinder base cover says "no go" on the 110, but all that is needed is a 1/2"  longer Hex Socket Head Cap Screw than the one supplied in the kit. New size was 5/16-18 x 4 inch to the replace the 3 1/2 inch in the box.

Finally a chrome Inner Primary Cover 60885-10. I was wondering how'd this would look because it far less expensive than replacing the inner primary itself. I'm pretty happy with the results.

Here are the before and after pics... First the Throttle Body

I was talking with my buddy Stevie Wonder the other day... he was amazed that even HE can see your bike :).
Looks GREAT and thanks for posting up the pics and the little issues involved with installing.

Nice job!

(Note: Stevie Wonder is not a personal friend and this post is not meant in any way to offend blind people.)

Looking good Nick  :2vrolijk_21:  now all we need is a few good rainfalls to clear the salt from the roads and we will be good to go  :drink:

I have had mine on for two seasons now and never rattles loose (touch wood) I used the Blue Locktite when installing. :2vrolijk_21:

Funny I worried about that. I noticed the engine base cover had 2 rubber strips on the back to keep it from rattling (though its a tight fitting piece)... so I added 2 stripps of soft foam trim tape on the underside of the primary cover. I don't think it needs anything because its fits snuggly too, but i figure once some heat sets into that foam..  it aint going no where.

And My buddy Marty is correct... always use locktite blue on all fasteners.

No con that i know other than money.... like that should matter on these things ;) If I had reason to tear into the primary I'd like replace the inner with the chrome one.

Seriously, I'd always wondered how these covers look and much to my surprise I'm quite pleased with the quality of the parts and the way they fit and look. Good value I think. Easy addon splash of glitter. Many these days like the black look or the satin look...I even catch myself staring too long at these newer trends, but at the end of the day... I still like chrome.
