« on: July 15, 2006, 05:39:18 PM »

The temp here in north Alabama is hovering around 100 ..and when you take the heat off the hi-way ..heat off the 103 and 95 % humidity ...its just to stinkin hot to ride during the day ...Ive been riding over 40 years here in Alabama and souther Tennessee and I just do not remember it being this misrable ... is it Im just getting older or is it getting HOTTER ???

It's a hundred with high humidity under a blazing sun here today too.  Quite a warm stretch actually.  I was riding between 5:00 and 7:00 this morning.  Got a bit of breakfast, saw the sunrise  from the saddle and never cracked a sweat.

Bama, if you're getting older then so am I.  Until I got to South Florida I don't ever remember thinking that it would be too hot to ride.  Understand, sure, I could get out there in the heat and humidity and do it if I had to, but what I mean is it's sometimes too hot to enjoy it.  There have been days when even at highway speeds, the heat was really soaking into me and then I would come to an intersection or slow traffic, or a stop light, and just sit there and sweat.

TwoLane's got the right idea--get out there early, or as I do sometimes, late in the afternoon when the sun is getting low and not so intense..like it was today :).

The upside is how good a frosty cold one tastes when you get home. [smiley=drink.gif]

If it's the same as in my case it's probably a little bit of both. :) If it's really hot and humid I don't do much in town riding, would rather get out in the country on some nice two-lane roads. Even the super slab w/lots of air moving is better then stop and go city driving when it gets that hot.

Saw on the news today that some 50 year records for high temps have just been broken, so, yeah.  It's too hot to do much during the afternoon in the sun.  I'm just being content to jaw and read w/ you guys/gals (in the air conditioning)!  [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif] har!   [smiley=drink.gif] spyder

I ride for enjoyment... I've used up my masochistic allotment in my younger years. We waited till after the sunset last nite and then took the scoot out to Manitou Springs for pistachio ice cream from Patsy's. The ride back home was great with the red glow of the guages and the rumble of the 103 with NO opressive heat. Life is good!

I road to my HD shop today and saw the 07's ...I liked the Saten Silver ...kind of a flat silver ..saw it on a Street Glide ...also a Denium Blue looked different ... but all and all nuttn much different in appearence ... I think the Fatboy will look a lot better ... there were no SEs ..but they do have a new 06 SEFB that I bet someone could buy right ..

Bama....What part of AL are you in?  My wife and I spent last week in Lake Guntersville and it was hot, 90-93, but seemed a lot cooler with a near constant breeze blowing off the mountains.  Currently, down here in the FL swamps it's 90 and 90 humidity.  Just got back from an after dusk ride and had to wring out my shirt.  No good, or I'm getting too old to enjoy it.

Bama...it's just been hotter than Hades here lately....Monday is going to be 98.  I'm at Lake Martin this weekend and it was 99 today, but the rain came and cooled things off a bit.

I just don't remember it being this hot...Global Warming?  And little rain where I live....

It was too hot here yesterday too.  We tried a couple of times (early in AM and later in PM) to do a couple very small and quick yard chores, and that meant a complete strip down and throw all clothes in washer when we came in.  But, Since it was too hot to ride and I am overdue cropping and posting the family pictures from our June trip, I sat down and cropped, resized, renamed and then posted. If you wish to view here is the url;  http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v232/AnnRoadKing/CA_2006/  No scenic pics from on the road, just family, sorry.  All the scenic road pics are in our heads.   I don't remember all the details now, but we left early in June for a ten day, 7 of it on the road, trip to Ontario and back.  It was a little over 2500 miles.  We rode in the Pocono's, Catskills, Smokies and Blue Ridge mountain ranges.  We had one very minor mechanical problem, leaky gasket. The shop took five minutes, no charge for labor, part was under $5.  We rode one day between brother's homes, 45 minutes of rain. The rest of the trip the weather was fantastic.  We found rooms when we were tired, food when we were hungry, gas when the tanks got low, it was a great trip and we had Oh so much fun.  :D

Speaking as one who lives in an area that doesn't allow for year around riding (Chicago winters tend to make riding a rather hazardous and uncomfortable proposition), there is no such thing as too hot to ride.  As long as you can keep moving at a decent speed, you get natures' own air conditioning.  Just stay out of congested areas with stop and go traffic.

Now, while there is no such thing as too hot to ride, that comment does not apply to chores around the house and yard.  As far as I'm concerned, anything over 80 degrees is too hot for chores.  We just have to get our priorities right, folks. 8-)
