Mike, I think you missed a couple zeros and a comma.......800,000. :nixweiss:

I heard on the news this morning about the waiter that lost his job because he posted on his Facebook account about Payton Manning's tip.  Dumb chit. :huepfenlol2:

I'm not sure how folks who think that FB is so bad are differentiating it from any other online forum?  You're all a member of at least ONE!  Posting daily activities, pics, opinions and other personal interactions.  So one's called Facebook, the other is called "XYZ"forums.  Some forums require an admin to approve membership, but that's simple and then all of this is public info.

I enjoy re-connecting with a few dozen of my old AF friends after 20 some years.  I enjoy seeing frequent pics of my nephews that are in CA.  I enjoy getting updates from my cousins who's lives are too busy to call that frequently.

Do I block folks or "ignore" them?  Yes a few are too annoying to deal with, but most of the time, I just read their drivel and move to the next post that is probably more interesting.  Might even be something I want to see.  Like Brian Klock's new project, or HogProWheels recent install.  Or maybe one of my co-workers needs to know if they can get sushi at the airport?

Sound familiar?  Seems like a glass house and stone scenario to me.

It all goes back to the person posting and the person interpretting the post.  Facebook, CVOHarley, HDForums, HTT, ...  Pick your poison, they're all the same fundamentally.

Type somebody's name on Facebook and see what you get.  Now type their name in a forum and see what you get. :nixweiss:

It's not personal family information that's posted on a forum but it certainly is on fb.  I find it incredable that any of my grandkids can get up to the minute information on just about everybody they know......except me.   They have to come to CVOHarley for that and only because they know my username here. :huepfenlol2:

Again, that's your choice.  Take SBB, for example.  He handles his online ID a little differently, and it would be easy to trace him to his business, at a minimum.  Like I said, it's the user, not the forum.

It goes back to how paranoid are you?

Our ALR chapter has a facebook page, but its closed to members only. I imagine someone could hack into it if they wanted to although I wouldn't know how to do it. I get a little nervous posting any details of Patriot Guard missions on our site because of some of the nuts that like to disrespect plans for honoring our fallen warriors.  Doc

Ok, now here is a valid example of what facebook can do if you're not careful. Ouch, that'll learn him!

I just can't get enough of being called and IDIOT. WTF. No an idiot with a security clearance would post where he works, what he does, list all of his personal info and keep the profile wide open. Hopefully very few people do that but I've seen it done before. If it weren't for Facebook I wouldn't have much interaction with family or friends and it helps to keep me somewhat sane. Keep it locked down and limit your personal info since no one needs to know what you do for a living nor do they need to know you location overseas or stateside. I put down Baghdad but that doesn't mean I live there, it just means I'm in Iraq.

Do you mean like this?

Yep just like that. I went to the site in question and it's way way too open. He should have that thing locked down tight as a drum. Of course now by me just going there and then coming here means you are all implicated as well.  :) I'm sure they could do that if they so desired. IP addresses are simple to follow but I'm not up to speed on all of it.
