dyno time - recommendations?
« on: March 22, 2012, 11:30:26 AM »

good news coming. My new ride SESG in Ruby Red ha come in. I am putting on V&H Power Duals w Hi Output. Dealer is going to do a download so I will do a tune somewhere, hence my question. I live in Mass about 20 miles west near Framingham. I have read up on Dr Dyno but know nothing about him. I do know that he uses PCV. Any feedback on him or other recommendations on other folks not too far from me. Thanks a bunch.

I'm running V&H Dresser Duals (True Duals) with the Hi-outputs on my 2011 CVO Street Glide. They are pretty loud. Let me know how they sound with the power duals.

As far as tuning goes, I purchased a PowerCommander V from FuelMoto that came pre-loaded with a map for my setup (No Extra Charge). The tune was dead on. A friend of mine wanted to do a tune on his dyno. After only a few minutes of dyno time and a few minor tweaks he said the map/tune I had was dead on. He squeaked another 1-2 HP/TQ out of it but I like the tune Fuelmoto much better and am still using it after about 12,000 miles.

The Fuelmoto guys have the best prices in the country on powercommander, plus a free map. Definitely worth saving another couple hundred bucks and the abuse from a dyno.

By the way, I installed the Powercommander in about 10 minutes. Super simple.

Congrats on your new scoot.

SO, you were so right about the Hi Outputs being loud, possibly too loud.  I did call Jamie and have opted for the Power Vision (thanks for the recommendation).  Seems awfully simple to install, we will see.  Question, has anyone installed the quiet baffles from V&H into the Hi Outputs?  I have a call into them but any first hand info would be helpful.

Yes, the Hi-Outputs are loud for me. But I'm running the V&H Dresser Duals which are a true dual setup. The problem I find with the true duals is that the rear cylinder pipe (right side) is significantly shorter than the front cylinder pipe (left side). The left side does not bother me nearly as much as the right side.

There is another CVO Street Glide here in town that is running the Hi-Outputs with the Fullsac X-pipe (similar concept to the power duals) and it is much less loud than mine. Much deeper rumble and definitely no noticeable "crack" like mine. I'm saving my pennies for a 2-1-2 pipe for sure.

I have used the Quiet Baffles. I have put them in and taken them out numerous times. They definitley make the pipes quieter. The problem is that at idle they have a sound (they best I can describe it) that can be compared to a car with an exhaust leak, kind of "fluttery" if you know what I mean. The quiet baffle has a perforated cone in it that I'm assuming makes this windy fluttery sound. Cruising down the road they are nicely quiet. Hard on the throttle they have a unique sound. Again, the best way for me to describe it, they have a "squatty" sound. Pretty cool actually.

I've messed with these pipes and baffles so many times I can't even count. The latest that I've done is to cut out the perforated baffle sectionof the quiet baffle, leaving part of the cone shape, and turned them around to add some back pressure. Worked, bike runs stronger and they sound truly awesome hard on throttle but I made them louder and more annoying.

Like I said, Hearing the Hi-Outputs with the 2-1-2 setup they sound real deep, Harely Davidson loud but not "nearly" as annoyingly loud as a true dual setup and that annoying "crack" seemed to be gone.

Let me know your thoughts on your setup once you get a chance to put a few miles on it.

Congrats!

Give Rob of ROBS DYNO in Gardener Ma a call he has a tuning shop as well as a mobil dyno, he travels to various dealers and bike events in the area and also tunes at the race track in Louden NH!
Dr Dyno is a compentent tuner, But he advocates to strongly to sell you a PC  as a piggyback controller even if you allready have a SE or other tuner allready installed! Now you would be paying for a second controller you don't need!   Bostonboy

I figured I would send an update on the Hi Outputs w the VH Power Duals.  I now have about 1000 mi.  As we all stated before, they are LOUD.  I measured them with a sound meter and they hit around 125db at idle.  I previously had the Fullsac 2.25's with the VH Power Duals and they were much quieter with still a nice rumble.  That was on my 09 SERG so i wanted something a little different on the SESG.  I don't want to start messing with the baffles.  I am not sure what i will do.  Maybe the 4" Rinehart's, or maybe not.  I haven't had the neighbors complain yet, but they might.  They do border on the too loud/obnoxious.  When I see a LEO, i definitely get off the throttle.  so, what sound am I looking for.  Deep rumble, not too loud, but when you crank it lights up.  No loss in power is definite as well.

That's what I hear the V & H Monsters will do. They are what's going on mine with S&S head pipe. I'll let you know...but, I won't get to ride it with the pipes and tune until June 26.
