I've been following several threads on the board regarding LED headlights and decided to order the Phase 7 Truck-Lite 7" LED headlight. I just picked up the HD Wire Harness and had pre-oredered the Frenched Trim Ring. A Frenched Trim Ring is recommended, because the Truck-lite housing protrudes about an inch further, leaving a black plastic ring visable. The new trim ring would ideally hide that and clean up the lines. The Frenched trim ring I ordered did not work out. This one has a tab at the bottom, rather than (like stock) a screw hole in the housing. I have to figure out which one will work and return this one to JP Cycles. It was somewhat hard to tell what would work looking at their web site. No worries, it's time to back up and punt.
The headlight was purchased from a vendor on Ebay for $249.00 + shipping.

Looking directly into the lens-- note the panel located midway. It separates the high/low beam reflectors. It also has a circuit board embedded along with the rear facing LEDs. The LEDs are pointed away from the lens projecting onto the highly polished reflector panels which line the housing. This is one of the most efficient designs I've ever seen. You can see where the retaining screw is located on the bottom of the trim ring. This is idealy, where any other replacement ring would secure - one would assume.

I backed up a little for this shot. The driving lights will be replaced in a couple of weeks. They will better match the headlight in appearance and efficently improve illumination while reducing power consumption.

This is the trim ring I ordered from JP Cycles. I'll have to return it and find the right trim ring for this bike. You can see the tab on the lower left (facing) side.
Any suggestions?

This is the $40.00 part from HD that allows for your garage door opener to operate after changing headlights. The light will function fine without it, but you'd have to figure out how to make the opener work otherwise. In my book, all well worth the cost of installation and still way less expensive overall than the competition.
The difference with this light illuminating the road and the sides of the road is remarkable! I see things I've never noticed in the dark before. It really illuminates road signs and any big critters entering the path. It should be even better when the driving lights are installed. The high beams are incredible and many times better than the spotty stock headlight. Truck-Lite has effectivly elimiated the hot spots and underlighted peremeter areas.
