Ok, new to the sight and was considering trading up from my 05 FLSTF so I started looking at the CVOs and made it to this sight.  Seems like a lot of problems with these.  I've got none with my fatboy, was just considering an increase in power.  Is the CVO worth it?  Considering "96" or up.

Keep in mind that you only read things about those bikes that have problems.  Nobody posts things about how great their bikes are, generally.  The 110" engine is about as good as HD makes now.  I wouldn't have given you $1.00 for an '07 when they first came out, but HD finally stepped up and got those issues straightened out...it wasn't pretty, but they got fixed.

If you want a CVO bike, get one.  If you plan on doing heavy modifications to the engine, don't buy the extended service plan.  If you plan on keeping it basically stock with a different exhaust, etc., then get the ESP and ride it.

Most folks on this site actually RIDE their bikes, putting quite a few miles on them each year, so any problems show up sooner.  The vast majority of HD riders don't put 4K miles on their bikes in a year.  Therein lies the difference.

The problems aren't all I have read but there seem to be many of them.  Would you reckomend against getting one if I'm only going to ride about 5k a year?

BearUSN,

Depending on the bike you want and such I know a few 95's that give some of these 110's a real run for their money and would say if power is the only reason, you could do just as well with the bike you have.   However the new bikes have the new frames and the rides, and handling are imo significantly improved.   Whether it be 5k or not there are some new features that are pretty appealing like abs brakes for example.

I would recommend going to a dealer ride day or an event where you ride several of them and then decide.  Stock the 110's are very hot and really do need a tune and to let the motor breath some before they are what I would call rider friendly as well as getting rid of some of the lag in the throttle by wire.

Good luck with your decision and welcome to the site.

What CVO bike are you looking at?  I would not change JUST for a different engine.  It depends on what you're trying to accomplish by considering a new bike.

IMO, the new frame is much better than the old frame.  The ABS almost makes it worth it, by itself.  Buying/not buying because of how many miles a year you ride is not really a consideration...I was just saying that some people here put more mile on their bikes in a year than some people put in 3 or more years, so if there is an issue, it's going to show up sooner.  But a lot of folks don't have any problems.

If you're asking for advice, more information needs to be provided.

Buying a non CVO bike and putting 10K worth of modifications on it does not make sense with regards to value over time...you never get money out of any mods you make to a bike when you re-sell it.  To do the things to a stock bike that a CVO comes with would cost much more than the price difference to begin with.
