I remember on a Nor-Cal ride, Trucker Mike reminded us "Hey we have gone 150 miles time to eat" :huepfenlol2:

I usually ride a half tank.  Not sure how many miles but I'm guessing about 120 or so or about 2 hours.  I always stop and fill it at a half tank since I rode from Idaho to the Gulf Coast about 20 years ago.  There were some long stretches in there where I got a bit nervous about running out so at just under half tank I start looking for gas.

Or I stop to let loose part of the quart of gatorade I guzzled at the last stop.  No time constraint on that one, when nature calls.

Roadking71865, my longest day was from Salina Utah, to Reno Nevada via highway 50. Left Salina at about  8:30 AM  pulled into Silver Legacy Casino at about 10:30 PM. Didn't pay much attention to the mileage, and we were not planning on going the whole way, but we couldn't get a motel in any of the small towns along highway 50. I did find a place with about  175 miles to go, but my wife looked at the motel and looked at  me and said " Any way we can make Reno tonight" I said it's your butte. (we were on my 95 Heritage at the time). I did okay until about 30 minutes from Reno and my arms both started to ache from my hands to my elbows, but after a nice shower and some food and a couple of gin and tonics we ended staying up until 2 or 3 AM. Just to pass on a little info a motel attendant told me that the reason all the motels were full was because of all the geologists that work the desert area. Seems awful hot to work in that weather. I never make room reservations because it puts me on a schedule and makes the ride less of an adventure. I highly recommend highway 50 especially since I got my 09 (the trip above was in 2007), but only early or late in the season. We did it in July and it was a scorcher.CAHBIKER

If by myself on a long road trip to cover miles and the weather is good I'll go 200ish miles until the light goes on.  Then gas, pee, bottle of water and go.  I shoot for a 15 minute pit stop if trying to make time.  If not trying to make miles I stop whenever I see something that needs investigating or a picture, my favorite type of ride...

Every 2hr or 150 miles depending on how I feel like riding that day.
Longest day ride was 700 miles, Maggie Valley to home, 700 miles due west
on I-40.

I am definitely no Iron Butt.  Longest rides (and they were both in the last 2 months) has been 485 miles.  I stop every 60 miles (usually try to find a rest area) to just rest / hydrate for 10 mins.  It makes no difference to me to arrive a little later than to push needlessly.

My longest trip was 1400 miles that's 700 each way. I try and stop about every 200 to 250 miles or so. Just to relax a bit. Don't care to push bike or my self anymore. It will all be there when I get there :) and if it's not I'll just hop on and keep riddin.

956 miles in 18 hours.  Sturgis to home left at 6am and pulled in the garage at midnight.
Like Forest Gump said.  For no particular reason.  It was a nice day for a ride and at each fuel stop I decided I might as well go one more tank, next thing you know I was home.
I hate the idea of a goal of XXX mileage...  Sometimes I prefer to not even have a destination...
What ever feels good.

I had a friend ride from Sturgis,SD to Hartford,Arkansas straight thru. 1048 miles on a Road King stopping only to gas up, pee and get a drink! Was getting there for a 3 day party. I was standing there when he pulled in and ask where's the beer  :drink: and where's the turkeys? Not to eat, to cook!! He was the guy who was going to deep fry the turkeys for the party that night!!! That's a tough Mo-Fo!!!  ;D

My personal best was Chickasha, Oklahoma to Winslow, Arizonia and back in 23 hours and 42 minutes. Raised 6750.00 dollars for a childrens charity. Did not plan very well hit the mountains in the dark even in June was cold. Lots of 800 - 1000 mile days just like to ride but never beyond the safe limit and that is different each day depending on weather, roads, rest, health, etc.

As long as the fuel will let me.....or when running with a group.....as long as the others fuel lasts...BUT most importantly until the ones like me (over 50) need to stop if you know what I mean. I live outside of Chicago and am heading for Sturgis Friday morning for my 13th trip to the promise land of riding.  We'll make it out in two days going 700 the first and the finish the final 300 or so the second day with stops in the Badlands, Wall and the dealer in Rapid.  It breaks up the day.  I will be returning in one day...960 miles door to door.  I usually leave early AM and home just about dark.  It's a long day, but I have to be back Thursday night.  I have done this two of the last three years and with the luck of the Irish the weather has always cooperated.  Hopefully it will this year too.  This will be my first trip with the 2011 SESG and I am sure I will enjoy the experience.
