Yea, my old wideglide has over 90,000 on a built motor with no problems.
I sold it with 70 and my friend put the other 20 on it with no engine problems at all.
Map sensor and the like, but no internal problems.
WTF.
I hope this one last's a bit longer.
Had gear drive cams in mine, so I thought maybe they scored the pump, the tech said all was good, had crank run out checked at 15,000 and was in spec.
Guess you never know.

I want a 110, but I just can't pull the trigger until I see better results. When folks start getting over 100k with no issues then I might have to get one. I wanted one when they came out, but I've been holding back all this time just because of all the problems. Is HD ever gonna get the 110 right? Maybe they should give up on it and just start putting 120s in the CVOs... Hear that HD? Hint! Hint!

with these criteria may have to wait for some more years  ;D

At least with the 09'ers reported serious problems are quite rare but still fewer got in higher mileage already.

And never forget the casualties will make the headline, the others keep quiet  ;)

You need to remember this engine has been out for 5 years and the problems you hear about are few in comparison to the number made I had 36k on my 07 and have 21k on my 11 yes i had a head gasket leak on the 07 but no other problems as of yet.

Yeh like that heat monster would be any better????? :confused5:

I took the "other route" with my 09 Fatbob. I put in HC pistons and a 259e cam, tuner and pipes. I figure I'll be an early blowup but WTF I love performance. I have 13K of tires spinning and fun with only noisy lifter tick but still going strong. Wish me luck. I have 44K on an 09 FLHRC with HC pistons and a cam. Ticking lifters for most all of 35K. :nixweiss:

I hope at least some folks realize Harley's lack of quality and durability isn't limited to the 110 version of the Twin Cam.  Spend some time talking with folks who have the TC96 and you will find they have many of the same problems with many of the same components.  The 110's had cylinder and gasket issues not found on the 96, but the other stuff like crankshafts and primaries and cam bearings and lifters and so on are the same low quality stuff and subject to the same sort of failures.

Current 110's seem to be no worse than the other Big Twin engine options available from Harley (TC96/103).  If you want a more statistically reliable engine, you will likely need to consider other brands.  If you prefer a Harley, you just need to accept the fact that the odds aren't as good as they might be with something else.  Nothing in life is foolproof or guaranteed forever, so suck it up.  If you insist on rewarding the p-poor management of H-D by buying one of their new bikes, just stash some money somewhere to pay for the eventual repairs.  If you wish to reward H-D and the dealer even more, buy an ESP instead.

H-D and me  -  a classic love / hate relationship.  Current score:  love 40, hate 50, bewildered 10.

Have to agree with Jerry on this one, if you want to put high mileage with few issues you need to look elsewhere.  If you insist on owning a HD be prepared for the issues previously mentioned.  I have been real lucky with mine but this site has opened my eyes and forced me into reality.  My wallet is not what is was so my decisions are now based on my lack of finances and using common sense.

Guys, can I hijack this just a little? Kinda the same idea anyway. If a person goes to all the expense of having everything trued, plugged and welded...can that assembly ever be reused or is it a weld once and replace deal? Wondering if the weld can be ground out say if the rod bearings went bad after investing in the forged SE wheels and stuff? Might not be worth it.  Are there different grades of rod bearings that have more needles bearing in them? I'm using the factory cam bearings versus the Torringtons as an example. In watching the video "How it's made", the rod bearings they seem to be using don't look like there is a complete  needle bearing support and just caged bearings. True assembly line work and nothing special that I see being done on these. Not that I expected there would be I guess.

hd rods have ALWAYS been caged roller bearings

and they used to come with rollers and cages seperate & the builder had to measure the rod and measure the pin and select the proper size rollers and then the right cage to assemble the crank - the process took awhile

when you rebuild a shovel or older its still the same thing - thats why so few shops will do the older engines, you have to have a LARGE inventory of different size bits to put it together right.

The trued and welded crank can be disassembled, the welds are small and not really deep, so fairly easy to remove. A few careful minutes with a proper sized grinder will allow removal when or if required.
Properly done, a trued, welded crank set up with blueprinted bearing to rod assembly will likely never need replacement in your lifetime. HD are hell for stout if assembled correctly.
S&S still uses a 1.5" on their drag bike engines with 3-400hp, the HD crank is 1.640 if I'm remembering the # right, it should be 50% stronger at the minimum. FWIW  twonotter.
