Fireguy, Is that a salvage SERG?  Looks more like curb rash.  I was just wondering as it's got the SG Fairing.  I've scrapped the floorboard mounts on highly crowned two lane roads with the stock suspension.  But, never gotten anywhere close to the exhaust crossover heat shield.

Converted the rg to a sg. It works for me. The more homework I do with the suspension the more I believe it could be a combination of road hazards and weak shocks. I don't know how long the air shocks last but was told by a dealer that even though they don't loose air pressure the shocks start to give out over time. Long story short, my shocks came off a 2005 seeg.

Fireguy,

       Your first post said the suspension was stock with no modifications.  But if the rear shocks are 7 or 8 years old, they could easily be shot.  Have you noticed the rear shocks bottoming out?  If so, that's the problem: either the air lines or the shocks.  Try checking the air pressure in the shocks.  Also check them for oil leaks.

My thought was if the air pressure is good then there should be nothing wrong with the shocks. ( learning something new everyday). Also finding out that all street glides come with 12" shocks tells me I don't need to go to 13" shocks but instead upgrade my chit.

all according to the spec sheet hae 5.1" ground clearence...hoe is that possible??

Those are the worst shocks known to man whether they're full of oil and properly inflated, or not!  Get some good aftermarket stuff on there and you'll be amazed at the difference in handling.  I agree with those saying that you should raise it up if the seat height isn't a problem.  It'll just plain ride better and be more fun when pushed through the twisties.

How is that possible?  Hate to jack the thread, but lean clearance and ground clearance are two different clearances. 

When you roll up next to a curb to speak that that sweet young thing, while dragging and grinding off your side stand return spring, that's a ground clearance problem.  And, you'll start carrying a spare side stand spring or hope you have a zip tie that'll hold it up until you get home.  i.e., you were straight and level and lean clearance wasn't a problem.

When you enter a highly crowned road perpendicular from a side street and make a 90 degree left turn across the top of the crown, then lean clearance becomes a factor and quite rapidly just as it does in the twistys.  Lean clearance goes to zero quite rapidly in many events, and ground clearance isn't a consideration.
