I have read a lot of the post regarding Cams. Seeing that new components come out on a regular basis I will ask for some fresh input.
The dealer is rebuilding my 2003 SERK/RG From the bottom up as you may have read in my WTF post. I was fairly happy with the stock 253 Cams but I am told they are more of an emission friendly Cam. I also have the SE mufflers, Air Cleaner and Race Tuner.
When I upgraded to the Hydraulic Cam Plate last summer it was highly recommended to do Cams. After a lot of suggestions and research I went with the Red Shift 575 by Zippers. From day one I was unhappy with lifter noise. I did like the increase in noticeable power but it wasn't worth it.
Now I will never know if the noise was just due to the Cam design or an improper install and at this point I don't care. Due to the fact I had a catastrophic failure, the dealer is doing a complete rebuild.
So the question is what do I have them put back in? I ride two up most of the time with a full load, Tour Pak Bags and now the RG fairing. My priority is quiet lifters and torque. If need be I will go back to the 253. I wanted to do with the 255's but they won't fit my motor. I hate to go backwards. When the motor goes back together I could use a different head gasket for a little more compression. The Dealer is recommending 211's another is suggesting Andrews 237's
You all have been there and done that so any fresh input will be greatly appreciated.
