Leather Tour Pak
« on: July 31, 2006, 08:36:51 PM »

Look here if you have not seen the '06/'07 CUSE leather tour pak being offered in the current P/A catalog. Whether you like it or not I would never pay $1500.00 (plus installation kit, $400.00) for it!

How many ostriches (sp?) does it take to make the tourpak?  Must be hard little critters to catch.

This is for a non-CVO tour-pak, Im sure its more if we needed to replace ours, simply cause its has the emblem on it, also, the $1499.00 one in the pic, does not come with the speaker compartments....look at the pic in the link above. Well boys, better put a lock on your tour paks now. Especially me, I just added the quick release mount kit to mine.

I didnt say I didnt like it, I just dont like it all the time, The quick release kit is like having a quick way to have a 'different' looking bike once in a while, I'll only use the tour pak for longer trips now, not when Im staying in my neck of the woods, The leather tour-pak does put our bikes in a 'different looking' scooter catergory, like when I went to Hollister and there were 3 million Ultras that all had the hard pak, but only saw a few of the '06 leathers, so its diffently different from the norm.

Also, the quick release kit, is MUCH better looking of a bracket for our tour paks, if you dont have one, you need to get one. , and the Billet Boyz license plate was worth every penny I paid for it. All of the  HD designer's who came up with that god-ugly '06 License plate mount, should be takin out back and shot....any survivors should be shot again.

To me, it has its pros and cons, compared to my previous experience with the regular King Tour Pak. On the con side, it is slightly smaller. On the pro side, the leather is easy to maintain and keep clean. Can you imagine how fast you would notice a film of dust on the lid of a Black Candy Crimson tour pak (if you had one), but it would be beautiful. The latch on the leather box is also convenient - push one button and it is open compared to unlocking and unlatching the regular tour pak. But, on the other hand the one-button/latch mechanism takes up some valuable interior space. There are some compromises, but nothing insurmountable. I only noticed it recently in the P/A catalog and wondered if H-D will sell many. I don't think so, but then again they have sold all they made that are attached to $32k motorcycles.

Once you are used to the feel and handling of the bike with the tour pak it is amazing how different it feels with it off. It changes the center of gravity and the bike feels noticably lighter and faster. Sounds more powerful as you can hear the exhaust better and the weight reduction feels like you picked up about 5 hp. That's what I noticed with my old Electraglide, I am sure it is even more pronounced with the CUSE 'cuz the box has to be heavier.

Damn, so if someone (say, for example, someone named Mike) had one of these on a quick release and it got stolen the thief would be getting away with tour pak, quick release kit, lock hardware, light kit, speakers, speaker boxes, amplifier, bluetooth module and whatever else might have been in the tour pak.  Losing the tour pak would cost a heluva lot more than some bikes I've had.....
