GPS and the sun
« on: June 12, 2012, 06:03:25 PM »

I have two questions about the Garmin 660. First is it possible to get additional volume from the unit while wired through the NIM's and has anyone tried the detachable sun shade(visor) for the Garmin 660 and if so does it make the screen show up clearer?

The little visor works to some degree depending where your screen is aimed.
If you wear a dark shirt the screen shows up better than wearing a white one even in direct sun.

When the NIM activates for a turn prompt use the volume control on the left handlebar to adjust the volume. Also make sure you have all 3 volume setting on the GPS turned to 100%.

Thanks for all of your input, I already set the volume on max for all three of the settings and maxed out my handlebar control. I guess my pipes are just to loud or my hearing is to bad.... I guess this is just a problem of to much time in the saddle and old age....

Have my volumes up too. Guess my ears are not too good either. Could use more volume and I have a stock exhaust.

Will let you know what I think...

Update....
Received my hood... sent it back.... didn't like the fit. I think these hoods are made well, it just was not the fit I was expecting. No problem with the refund.
JMHO...

I just turned up my screen brightness and haven't had a problem in full direct sun.

I am interested in your feedback on the visor, has to be the cheapest thing you could buy for the bike to make an improvement.

I was thinking of something like this too. I can see the screen just ok in the bright sun. Let us know if it works for ya. Do you know if it fits on the CVO ultra mounted on the dash pad? Bob F

Turn the screen to 100% bright. I have never had a problem seeing mine in the Florida sun.

I bought the pastic hood too, and to be honest, it was a waste of $29. The sad truth is that the shirt color is most logical! I have no issue when wearing a black shirt. I white shirt is a whole other issue and the plastic hood does nothing to help with a white or non-dark shirt on. I am going to try the 100% setting, FL sun is year round

Does the 660 and/or the bike have a plug for external headphones?

Was the the hood from Priushood? What was / is the issue? Is it the fit? Function? Inquiring minds would like to know...

Nope, I got mine from Erin's hoods. Fit is good, never falls off. The problem is that the GPS is pointed at the rider to be able to see it, so, hood or not, the GPS screen reflects what the rider is wearing. Unless the hood came out to a foot from the riders body, I do not see a need for the hood.

I am going to try and adjust the GPS mount down and away from me and hope to still see the screen. Of course MOCO does not make that adjustment easy as the entire GPS mount assembly has to be removed to get the the screws that hold the assembly to the rubber ball for adjustments.!
