Corbin Solo Classic seat change worse??
« on: June 21, 2012, 09:37:32 AM »

Maybe it's just me, Corbin evidently changed their Solo Classic seat sometimes after the 2009 frame change on the touring bikes.  Prior to my 2012 FLHXSE3 I had a 2008 EGC with a Corbin Solo Classic seat and I loved it.  But the new Solo Classic seat I bought for the CVO, I am having real difficulty getting use to it.  It appears Corbin made the new seats more to sit you back in the saddle.  Sort of in a cradle I guess.  So now the nose of the seat has more of a hump in it instead of flat and that's what I am having a hard time getting use too.  I have even already sent the seat back to Corbin once to have the "nose job" done and it's better but still not to my liking.  I personally thought the stock seat was fairly comfortable but I like having a backrest.  I guess Harley brain farted on that one.  So now I am already thinking about if I may have to try something else.  I've used Mustang before with good success on another bike but I am afraid a Mustang would throw me too far forward on this bike.  I've read good things about Danny Gray seats.  Can anyone comment on if they have experienced the same thing with their Corbin?  And if so what you may have done to fix the issue?

Thanks

I had a Corbin Classic Solo on my 04 SEEG....put 60,000 miles on it.  Have a Corbin Classic Solo on my 10 SESG with 50,000 miles on it.  While the seat is a bit different, due to the wider and tallker area mid frame, haven't really noticed a "hump" in it.  It's still an all day seat with no issues. :nixweiss:

Have you changed the bars?  There are several out there that you don't have to change cables/wires on.  I think most have the Wild Ones however, a number of us have the Harley Touring Pullbacks.  They're 2" up and 2" back (closer to you).  The catalog (and website) say they're polised stainless but they are not......they are chrome.  It also says you need to change cables but none of us on this forum changed cables.  Maybe if you're not quite leaning forward it'll be better for you. :2vrolijk_21:

I have not changed the bars out just yet.  It's still something I'm trying to decide on as I have read where a lot have done it.  I just don't really feel I am reaching too much for the grips.  Although I am only 5'9" so I probably am some.  But that's a good point you bring up.  I also get the stinger sometimes in my upper left neck/shoulder area on long rides.  So I am sure it would be better if I did at some point.  I wonder if I will not like my hands up above the fairing with the new bars.  The mirror issue also.

I am dealing with the Corbin problems now.  Got my seat in it looks great. It pushes me really far forward from stock. It is also very wide where your legs go. It also has a hump in the middle kinda presses in the wrong place. Very unhappy with it. Have sent it back so it's wait and see for me. I'm 6'3" can't be riding with the twins on the tank.

My wife deals with that same issue after a couple hours.  While the bars helped a lot, she still has the issue.....just not as bad as it was before.

By the way, the bars are only 2" up so they're still behind the fairing.  As a matter of fact, she still uses her fairing mounted mirrors, she just has them pulled back even more.  So for her, they're probably more like 3" back and only 1" up.  She's 5'7"

Bubblehead......it sounds like you may have the Corbin Reach seat (it moves you up a bit from stock).  The Corbin Classic Solo actually moves you back just a bit from stock, so the reach forward is greater.  My wife has the Corbin Reach and it does have a hump at the front, in comparrison to mine.

If I think about it, I'll try to get side profile shots of both hers and mine this evening and post them here.

This is the same way I am feeling with mine Bubblehead.  I felt my older Corbin on the '08 really set me back and I had more freedom of movement around on it, which I loved, but the new just feels more a little more cramped up to me.  I found the stock seat pretty comfortable.  Nice and flat and sat back really nice with it.  But no backrest option. :-\

bearcat1,

First, I hope you resolve you seat issues, it sucks to pay what we did for our bikes and have comfort issues!

I had an 09 and 10 SG with no back, neck or problems with the "twins" (I put on 20 to 25,000 miles a year).  Soon after I bought my 11 Krypto I did notice the bar/arm position was different, BUT the SESG seat was light years above the stock 09,10 seats.  I too developed the neck/back burn and felt I was crowding the tank!  I watched this forum for some time before deciding to install the WO575s (no longer hoses needed).  WOW now Im back to a comfortable position again.  It may be you are leaning forward to reach the bars just that small amount that bothers you.

Again, just MHO good luck

Man - I guess I REALLY lucked out with the Corbin DualTour I got for cheap on here. It fits me perfectly. Seems every Corbin is different. I wonder what Mean City Cycles could do for you.

I had a Corbin on my old '95 FLHTP that was hard as a rock and made my legs numb after an hour in it. Sold it for $300 on FleaBay and replaced it with a Mustang Regal on that bike, and it was heaven. My wife loved the Mustang as a BSR too, because it was nice and wide and slightly higher at the front than the rear - so she didn't slide into me all the time.

The DualTour I have on Buster now is awesome for me, but my wife HATES riding 2-up with me on it. The rear part of the DualTour is small and very firm, and slants forward so she's back to the sliding into me on it. I have a big cushion for it that helps, but it doesn't cure the forward slant of the rear seat. The "fix" for now is a H-D Hammock seat I also bought on here. It's much better for her, but I hate riding on it... the neck is far too wide for me, and it sits me up uncomfortably high.

I'm thinking about buying a used Ultra seat for two-up rides. Gotta keep Momma happy back there... for some reason she's been having pretty bad left shoulder pain that may be arthritis - so she hasn't been riding her Tri Glide Beyonce much lately.

How did an upholstery shop add a whole backrest?  How does it mount?
