You can't go fast riding 700-900 pound motorcycle?

If you want to go fast buy something built to go fast.

True. But, 100 mph +/- is enough for me...

It's not how fast you go at top speed... it's how fast you accelerate... and you don't accelerate quickly by revving to super-high RPM.

You do it by keeping your engine in its max power RPM range, and upshifting at the point that the new gear will keep the engine in that range.

Gearing doesn't hurt either, hence the people looking at the 30 tooth sprockets and the changes in the primary.

In the past pre 07 a lot of guys went from 315 to 337 gearing by changing the comp sprocket out from a 25 to a 24 and changing the clutch basket from a 36 to a 37.   Lots of ways to do it.

In the end, on a dragstrip, it's HP that wins races, all other things being equal.  But, who rides like that on the street?

TQ is important in getting the mass moving, but HP is what matters when trying to get it from point A to point B after it moves in the fastest time.

For everyday riding on a V-Twin, TQ is what you feel the most, so that's where we like to keep our motors operating.  But, a bike that puts out 120 TQ and 110HP will get outrun by a bike that puts out 120 TQ and 120 HP, if all other things are equal (weight, launch time, etc).  Not by much, but in a 1/4 mile run, HP will beat TQ, if one bike has more HP than the other.

In real life, WGAS?

All true, Terry.

I was only addressing how to obtain the highest rate of acceleration... To do that, you have to keep the engine in the RPM range in which it is producing the most total power... the range in which the torque is not falling faster than the RPM (i.e., HP) is rising. And that is NOT at redline, nor anywhere near redline for street bikes.

For race engines it's a quite different story - cuz they are built to run at very high RPMS to produce massive TQ and HP... for several seconds... then get rebuilt...

Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall.  Torque is how far you push it.

Well said!

For me and my riding style I need two motors. One for crazy point A to B and another for "normal" riding. Harley should make a quick detach kit for this??
