Holy cow I'm done! :carrot:  What a PITA. I finally got the hang of the connectors. And I actually got everything back in place.
If you are looking at doing this remember...take good notes AND lots of different angle pictures of wire placement. I went back to my pictures for a good double check.
I have these in the upper most position and did loose some mirror. I'm going to run it this way for a while and likely pull them down a tad to give me back the bottom of the mirrors.

I did notice one thing. Does anyone know what the black and white wires are that come out of the throttle and are terminated under the fairing?

Heated grip wire.

The Black and White wire most likely are the heated grip connector?? That are use on the Ultra's.

I feel your pain!  I just finished a bar swap on my SERG.  Great sense of accomplishment as everything works fine.  Not to mention we probably saved $750-1000.

No, our SESGs do not have heated grips... but the twist grip sensor is the same part used on all of the Touring bikes, so there is a connection for heated grips there if you install them.

:cucumber: I just finished this mod also.  It was not as bad as I had expected or read about.  I did not touch the lower fairing.  I just made a tool to get the lower bolts loose.  I did add heated grips "HD type", I also purchased Heat Demons, but as everyone knows does not fit in the bar due to the diameter (anyone interested in the Heat Demons?).

I have heated grips "HD type" on my Vrod with no problems so far.

I just installed the right side outside the bar, wire can barely be seen.  If I have a problem, they are easy to get off.

I can see your point on the connectors.  It took me a few wires to get the feel and then it was OK.  I use a #60 drill bit.  There is a video on youtube on how to get the wires out of the connector.

I do like to feel and placement of the new bars.

Now I have to do them on my wifes bike, the only down side to owning two of the same bike.

Very true! I do have pictures of the plugs and wires if that will help? I should have taken the time to do an article on the bar swap but.......
Here is a short list of the steps that I took though.
Cover all paint especially the front fender with a blanket.
Remove windshield and place it in a safe location.
Remove 4 screws holding the front side of the faring on. Two are up on the back of the faring and two are under the triple tree.
Remove the outer fairing (help from the wife is good here) unplug the headlight bulbs from their sockets. Don't touch them!
Remove the upper two screws from the side of the forks (holds the signals on)
Loosen but do not remove the lower two.
Remove the brake and clutch handle bar assemblies and tie them to the mirrors on the fairing.
Remove the switch cover by inserting the key and turning all the way to the left and pushing up in the little tab sticking down under the switch. The switch will come off.
Remove the cover below this by the two screws, one on each side and the nut below the afore mentioned switch cover. Keep the washers in correct order for reassembly.
Now, I moved the inner fairing forward by spreading the framework slightly, so the mounts (steel) will move just past the mounting position. It does not take much, so don't overdo it!
You should have access to all four clamp bolts now. Do NOT loosen them yet!
Unplug all wires going to the bars from the front. Take the pictures now!
Go get wife again so she can hold the bars while you loosen the clamp bolts. If you loosen the bolts without the wife holding the bars chipped paint on the tank could result in lots of bad words!
Get the bars out away from paint! (No, I did not scratch mine but I could see what would happen)
Mark the plugs by wrapping painters tape around them and marking what wires are where.
Take more pictures!
Now the fun begins.
Remove the back of the plug. It has two tabs on either side. Slide it back on the wires.
Remove the orange seal and move it back on the wires.
Now, you are left with the outer plug and the white plastic internal.
Here is where I had problems. Nowhere did I see where anyone had mentioned that the white insert was held by locking tabs. They are on both sides and can be released by pushing a small screwdriver in from the back side on both sides of the plug. I know, pictures would be good here but I had both hands and feet busy (had to hold the bars in my lap)
Once you get the locks released, use needle nosed pliers to pull the white insert free.
Now release each wire by inserting a small screwdriver in the front of the plug and pushing a tab up above each wire and pulling the wire out from the back.
Pulling the wire bundles out of the bars is pretty straight forward.
Putting them back in is also pretty easy. The right side is pretty busy. I used a lead wire and taped the others to it then added a very slight dab of wire pulling lube that I had here already.
Now, putting those "douche" connectors back is tedious.
You will have to be patient, follow your diagram, and you will be ok.
One thing to remember is that those little pins are oriented with the shoulder out and the pin closer to the center of the plug. You will understand when you work with them.
I did the six pin first and worked up to the 12 pin connectors.
Once you get that white insert back in your home free!! ....now for the others!!

I hope some of this helps and good luck!

Thank for the tips. But can't we have a picture of the final result? :)

Don't kid yourself, it is ALOT of work!  On a Non CVO, without the internal wiring, it's not so bad, but the internal wiring makes it a bear. However, if you take your time, take losts of pictures of the harness connectors and correct wire positions, its doable but it's just alot of tedious work.  Great winter layup project. Just think about how much money you will save from the dealer doing and that'll keep you motivated.

I plan on doing mine this coming winter (confidence in the dealer's service department is not really high), along with adding heat Demons (opting out of the HD grips that I put in the original purchase, but didn't get installed yet). I'm hoping to get to the GTG in Spokane, even if only for a day, to see and try some of the bars that have been installed. The major complaint I have with the stock bars is the wrist angle.
