That harness, in addition to the LED headlamp and auxiliary lamps, has proven to be one of the most useful modifications I have done to my bike. I pulled the fairing, don't see how you could do everything you need to do and not. There is another harness that keeps the garage door opener and cigar lighter functional that needs to be installed, at least on  my 2007 model, that you can't get to without pulling the fairing.

Are you saying the garage door opener and aux power outlet will not function once this harness is installed?  So, yet another harness is required for those features?  Arghhhh...

RoadRunnr,

You say you changed your handlebars,. What bars did you go with? Do you like them? How hard is it to change them. I want to change my handlebars, just don't know what bars to go to. I have read that it is a pain to change them out, but how much? My dealer wants $1700 to do a complete changeout. That includes everything.

Thanks, Dan

I went with the Wild One Chubby 575's. They are 2" taller and 2" closer to you on the seat. I really like them, but I spent about 14 hours doing the change, the hardest part is disassembling the cable plugs. I took lots of pictures from multiple angles so I could see where every wire was before I took them apart. I can't speak as to wiether you can do it cause I don't know you, but I can say I'm not the best wrencher around and I did it.

I was afraid to do it, but I wanted it done bad enough, and couldn't see paying the dealer $1100 to do the work. so I just figured I would cut into my riding time and get it done myself.

I installed it on my 2010 SEUC and have no problems with the Garage Door Opener.

Thank you for your service.  I appreciate your reply as well.  I've got the harness and will be installing it this weekend.  I was about to put it on Ebay... :drink:

That harness takes about 15 minsto tnstall.  Remove lower fairing cap and plug it right in.  Really easy. Dont know why the spots stay on tho while the assy switch is on.  :nixweiss:

I've been away from the board for awhile, I log on and find this thread! Something I've been wanting to do but never wanted to cut the wires. FIVE years I've been wanting to do this... Rode to to the dealer this morning and bought the part. Going to the garage in a few minutes to pull the fairing and get this done.  ;D

you dont have to pull the fairing at all... just the lower cap,,  pull the plug assembly apart amd splice the harness right in..   then shove it all back in there :D    not hard to do at all, :2vrolijk_21:

;D ;D ;D Now you tell me. It was easier pulling the fairing but was totally not necessary. At first I couldn't figure out which connector it was. After a little tracing of the wires, I figured it out. My biggest problem was separating the plug. Seems after5 1/2 years the ends wouldn't come apart. Once apart, dielectric grease on both ends and back together. Very easy and something I've been wanting to do. Well worth the $30.
One casualty of the project was the side vents. Seems they have become brittle in this hot Florida sun and have started to crack. As soon as I went to put the fairing back on, it snapped right in my hand. Oh well. Just another reason to spend a few more dollars.

Cause that is where it is now drawing its power from - the accessory circuit - just like when you use the splice method that has been used by many for several years.

AJ, I'm not sure time / age has anything to do with it.  The plugs are just a bear to get apart.  My '12 was just as difficult as was my '07.

They are talking about 2 different things.  There is a harness that you need to use when installing LED lamps to keep the garage door opener and lighter working.  There is a separate harness that is needed to keep the passing lamps on when on high or low beam.

T thought we were talking the passing lamps on while the high beam was on at the same time? :nixweiss:
