Time for upgrades - need advice
« on: July 05, 2012, 11:39:50 AM »

Rinehart slip ons installed two weeks ago and I love 'em. Now it's time to get rid of the stock head pipes and go to true duals. Just found out that I cannot use the Fullsac ones due to the oil pan so what have you other 2004/2005 SEEG owners switched to?

Also, I want to go to one of the Arlen Ness or K&N high flow air filter setups but I want to retain the OEM football cover. Suggestions on that as well.

I've got that setup on another bike and love the sound!
Little loud, but that's what that bike's for!
I used the "conversion kit" from Fullsac and have been running this setup for 60k miles.
I don't plan to change a thing on that bike!

What bike do you have?  It is always helpful, if you only have the one CVO, to put it under your Avatar so we know which model you are talking about.

The Fullsac 'true duel' kit for <'08 works well...had it on my '08. One addition you might want to make to it is the Basani 2' heat shield...the 2 stock pieces  reversed and up-side-down don't look so good.

There's a thread with a pic or two on here about the piece.

Hey Doubletap,

K&N filters will fit under the OEM SE air filter cover.  It's the same shape as the stock filter on my 07 Ultra.

I've got the Rhinehart 3.5" mufflers and like them.  Am thinking of going to the 4" for the deeper sound, if they'll fit on the same header pipe.  Just need to take the time to verify it will work.

Good luck getting the way you like it! :2vrolijk_21:

Is there any noticeable performance gain with the air filter change? I've been told by a friend to buy a HD kit that replaces the backing plate and filter for increased air flow. But I haven't seen anything that says if it uses the original cover or not.

You can buy the necessary HD parts without buying the cheap HD paper filter, which will fall apart eventually.  There's a thread on here somewhere that is "Roll Your Own" filter.  You will need the backing plate, some O-rings, etc.

Or, there are several aftermarket pieces that will work...Arlen Ness Big Sucker; Doherty Power Pacc; Zippers; etc.  Most of them come with the K&N filter and all necessary hardware.

If you are running the stock filter with the enclosed backplate, putting the SE backing plate and K&N will definitely help the motor breathe better.  That and an exhaust will give you a good 10% increase in both HP and TQ.  That is standard procedure on all the Twin Cams that came with the closed box air filter.

On the '05, fitment of the stock cover is not an issue.  The K&N filter will last you basically for the life of the bike with proper maintenance.

Here's the link for the roll your own...I have not checked recently, but I would think the part numbers are still available and are the same as they were in the original post.
