Shifter vibration ??
« on: July 27, 2004, 10:22:01 AM »

I seem to notice my shifter vibrating much more than my Ultra when I'm shifting at high RPM's
Around 5000 rpm's and above, I go to shift and I notice a lot of vibration on the bottom of my foot. I thought it was because of the stroker motor but not sure.  Do any of you guys that stepped up (like I did) to the SEEG notice much difference in shifter vibration. I was riding a friends RK on Sunday and his was smooth like my Ultra was. I would rather hear from you guys before I take it to the shop and have it looked at.

thanks

Doesn't feel any different from my '02 EG Classic.  I have had to re-tighten the heel shifter twice after it rattled loose, though. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

No vibration at 5000, but notice that the front wheel keeps wanting to come off the ground when shifting at 5300!!! [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

This web site is great. Thank you very much for the input.
It is so much better going into the service dept. and tell them I have a vibration and all my friends that have SEEG's don't have the problem, so just fix it.

I'll check the shifter hardware for loosness first so I don't look like an idiot going in.

Thanks again.

I installed the front and rear longer shifters with the anti rattle kit.  THey use high quality material and no more rattle.  Here is some info from their web link.

The E-Z Spacer is another advanced design for those who wish to eliminate their heel shifter. It incorporates a chrome cover and stainless steel tension spring so that you'll have no unwanted play in the front shift assembly and arm when the rear heel shift arm is removed. That also means no rattling. A shorter version is also available as an anti-rattle kit when used with both front and rear shift levers. It can also be used with stock levers.

Try using an allen socket to tighten the shifters not an allen wrench.

Just don't forget your own strength. I did and after an unsuccessful drill and tap ended up w/ a new lever. [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

Hi guys,
Sorry it took me a while to find this thread, this could be an important one.
I had a good bit of vibrating and chaulked it up to the bigger torquier engiene. I am still not sure what the MoCo's stance is but lemme give ya mine. The post that holds the front and rear shift levers rattled loose enough to allow the shifters to lose their grip so I was stuck in fifth gear and had to pull off the road and try to align the planets and the shift system so I could shift again.  [smiley=furious.gif] This all happened at the Club HOG event in Richmond VA in August. 2 nights later on the way home from the event, we were going over the James River on the nice tall bridge on 295 and unbenounced to me, I lost the entire system at the top of the bridge.   [smiley=cry2.gif] It wasn't until we went to exit 295 that I realized there wasn't anything there.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif] There were three of us so two of us were able to go back and we actually found the entire system at the very top of the bridge, around midnight parked on the left lane - no fun.  [smiley=nervous.gif]
The guys at Colonial HD got the MoCo to send out a new setup and I belive there is an entire tube of locktight down there and haven't had a problem since. But I do look at that sombitch every time I go to fire the B/B up! [smiley=cool2.gif]

I have had shifter linkage rattle loose on two bikes and friends on three more. I think solution is RED loctite and retorque.
