Funny that you mentioned that.  An engineer buddy of mine at work and I were discussing how to hook small servo motors up to the lower vents and adding controls to the bars so I don't have to take the risk of crashing every time I try to open or close them while riding.

that could be a million dollar idea!!  better get to work you two.  by the way you could put a switch like the spots and cruise for the accessory. switch  so you could have open or closed.  But you might want to have some thing like a volume switch in case you only wanted them partially open.

Or you could save a lot of time and energy and money and just learn to adjust the vents when you're sitting at a traffic light or during a gas stop.

How often do you really need to adjust your vents?  I adjust mine roughly twice per year, open in late spring and close in late fall.  I may close them in summer if I get caught in a rainstorm to help keep my feet dry, but since I try to avoid riding in the rain as much as possible, that doesn't happen very often.

If you want a project that would make more sense, figure out how to make the windshield height adjustable with the push of a button.  Doing it the easy way by purchasing a Honda or BMW doesn't count. ;)

IMHO, the last thing needed on a Harley is more poorly thought out and poorly executed electrical gadgets.  At some point it makes more sense to just park the motorcycle and take the car or SUV.  I remember when many of us didn't even want a radio on a bike to interfere with the man and machine experience.  Now we have folks who want every creature comfort and convenience of their automobiles, and who bitch when it gets hot sitting in traffic.  Maybe they should buy a nice convertible roadster instead (Boxster, Z4, Miata, etc.)?  :nixweiss:

Funny you mention that Jerry. I brought up the windshield thing in a thread I started and was told to buy a Honda. I think it would be awesome if Harley had this. But what do I know.

Harley will probably do it in 2025! I mean it only took 25 years for them to start using cartridge technology in their forks! While I do believe HD has made leaps and bounds some seem to be very late? Oh well love'em or leave'em right!  Face out!

They have made lots of money on poorly though out technolgy and accesorys already why not a few more.  people still buy them  I personaly dont have a proplem opening and closing my vents when driving. Most of the time I never move them but In case of rain I wait for the proper time to do it.  Then reach down and adjust them to the position that I want.  Most of the time I have the cruise set to adjusts the right side by the way if I am running down the highway.   I do have some guys I ride with that cant reach their lowers from the seated position very well due to their size

Well, i originally meant it as a joke, but I ride a ton of miles in various weather, and as many times as I've been hit by a freak storm in the mountains, it becomes necessary sometimes to close the lowers to keep the rain off of my shins while riding.  Unfortunately, I'm one of those that have a hard time reaching the vents while seated.  I too use the cruise control when reaching down to the right, but when you've got two people on a fully loaded bike hauling a trailer, you still get a little pucker factor when you have to reach way down there to close those things.

It doesn't have to be a powered system. Just make a replacement knob with a lever that extends out below the storage pocket. Slide the lever to the outside the lowers rotate closed. Slide it to the inside the lowers open. Fully adjustable to any setting.

Now, anyone who makes this simple pice of plastic and sells and markets it owes me a percentage of the profit and creative royalties.

Victory does this on the Cross Country Tour's lowers, it was really easy to open and close the vents.
