IMO I would never buy an extended warranty for a 2007 or newer HD if you are planning on changing anything engine or electrical related. This includes exhaust !!!
There was NO WAY I was going to leave those ridiculous looking potato shooter exhaust pipes on my bike. Even if it voids my warranty, which it didn't, I would just take my chances with a new exhaust setup. What I really love is the deep sound from the exhaust due to the 110 engine. It shakes the ground and I would not trade it for anything

When my dealer started mine up today he said "sounds pretty good, huh?" I said yeah, sound almost as good as they look, that is why I have V&H oval slip-ons on order!!!

With regard to the quoted excerpt from the MW Warranty act...can"t the MOCO jut as easily say that the mods were what caused any issues we have with the motor thereby letting them get around the MW act? I realize they can't say an issue with the radio won;t be covered by my installing an exhaust but it would seem to be pretty easy for them to say an A/C, exhaust and PC would be the cause of a hung vavle or something similar.

Unbelievable how the MOCO makes you feel like such a redheaded stepchild just because you want to make a few changes to your ride. I can see if you ran nitrous through it, or made it redline at an insane rpm, but all most people want to do is make it run the way it truly should have from the start. Basicly good a/c, different exhaust, and then tune it to the right A/F mixture to make in run right. I for one am just waiting for the aftermarket parts to roll out and eventually change to the way I want like most of us do anyway, and will hope for the best if I ever have to deal with any warranty problems. And yes I was crazy enough to buy the extended warranty, so hopefully I didn't just throw my money away. Only time will tell.

Not really - they have to prove that your mods caused the failure, not just offer up conjecture.

He said the SERT is permanently stored in the ECM even if you "uninstall" it later and HD will find this out if you ever have a

And by the way, when I was in the service managers private office, he ordered the SERT for me on his computer. He was letting me see the computer screen as he ordered it and the retail cost ( my cost) is $459. Dealer cost ( as shown on the screen ) is $249. That is a pretty hefty mark-up. In addition, they charge 1.2 hours labor to download the SERT-Map (another $80-$90).

Hope that mark-up didn't surprise you that is about the norm for anything they sell. Somebody better at math then me can figure out the percentage, but ballpark I'm guessing 90+%? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

 [smiley=fireman.gif]
That would work out to a 54% markup (249 / 459) to those in the retail world.

D@mn, I hate to be the one to tell a guy like Jerry that he's wrong, but 'd00d was closer.  It's actually about a 84.3% markup ($459 / $249).

Or, said another way: $249 cost x .843 markup percentage = $210 markup + $249 cost = $459 selling price.

Jerry, as I thought some more about what you'd written about the retail industry's definition of "markup," I seem to remember something along those lines from some class at school one time.

It's probably their warped way of looking at things so that they can look at the customer with a straight face and say something like, "Our margins are really slim on this product," when in reality, they're laughing all the way to the bank!

So, to sum it up, you're probably not wrong afterall! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] ;D

To get back to the original topic of this thread - if anyone hasn't seen the cobalt blue SE Road King yet, you need to check one out.  This is one seriously fine looking ride.  There are two dealers here locally with a Cobalt RK on the showroom floor, and I'm amazed they are still available.  If I hadn't been spoiled by the tour-pak, lowers, radio, etc. on my SEEG, I would definitely be interested in this bike.  IMHO, this is the best looking Harley since the cobalt and black SE Deuce.
