Extended warranty question
« on: August 20, 2006, 12:52:15 PM »

I am thinking of asking for my extended warranty money back, has anyone else done this, and how do you go about doing so???, Thanks in advance.

Now that I have Jim as a friend, maybe better off just gambling that any repairs will be cheap enough to warrant doing this. Opinions appreciated.

I made a call Friday to start this process.  Called the warranty contractor itself and was told the request to and refund would come from the original selling dealership.

You really need to go back to your selling dealer and request it but I remember your selling dealer and you have issues.

When I sold my 2003 SERK, I didn't go back to my selling dealer and requested the dealer I was buying the 06 CUSE to begin to do the paperwork and they were happy to do it. So I guess if I were in your shoes I would ask your current HD dealer to help you begin the process of stopping the extended warranty. Takes about 4 to 6 weeks to get the refund as the check will likely be sent from extended warranty company to your dealer and then your dealer will reimburse you.

Good Luck

Mike;
I filled out the form at the dealership to get a refund on mine yesterday. Bring your plan number with you, its a real short form that the dealer fills out most of. Refund takes 4 weeks :-?

Is there a reason to cancel? Do they give you a hard time trying to use it?, I have 6 years left and the time to do it would be now....

Returning from Sturgis via Yellowstone.  Terrie and I spent the night in Idaho Falls.  The next morning, when I started my bike, I noticed that my oil pressure guage was immediatly pegged at 60 psi.  I turned it off and back on.....it hovered on 0 for a few seconds then went up to about 15 psi.....I gave it a little gas and it went up to about 25 psi.  We rode about a mile or so to the gas station and filled up.  When I started it that time it stayed on 0 psi and now my oil indicatior lamp is lit up, too.  I called for the flat bed, via HOG road service (the only reason that I stay a member).

It's now back here in Sacramento, as of yesterday.  But the front fender was dented and paint all flaked off of both front corners, so somebody is buying me a new front fender.  But back to the oil thing.........you're probably all thinking what I'm thinking about now......the rear cam chain shoe fell apart and took out the oil pump.  I'm just damn glad that I have the extended warranty.  When I bought the bike I did not really think about it much and went ahead and bought the warranty. I also did not think that I would be doing any major mods that would impact the warranty. My reason for canceling is that I do all of my own work and that I do not trust the dealers in my area and would not have them fix the minor stuff anyway. Well I have done the mods so the warranty on the engine is questionable now. My 2 year is up soon so I thought I would cancel the extended and put the money into other bling stuff.

JC; when you called me from Idaho I had a feeling that the pump went south. I have seen this coutless times with the tensioners. Will Sac Harley do the gear set for you? That really sucks on the damage, what carrier did you use?

Ok, just found it.  Actually had the original paperwork handy as I'm currently doing the paperwork to cancel mine before the factory warranty on the bike expires.  On 10-4-04 the "7 year" (i.e., five years above the factory warranty) package cost me $1170.00 at Chicago HD.
