Not a former yet. I should sell my 1500 as I haven't ridden it since 2010 but it's my backup bike and low mileage. I keep tellin myself I'll compare the two in back to back testing but I just keep riding my UC and not interested in the wing. Might make enough out of the sale to build a rippin mill for the UC.

Ok,,,,,,so going to put up wing and trailer for sale next week.  Any years to watch out for on a SEUC?  What does the number at the end of the model mean?

2006 was the first year/original SEUC... 2007 was SEUC2, 2008 was SEUC3.... each following year got the next consecutive number.

I'd suggest a 2009 or newer....definately ABS brakes. :2vrolijk_21:

I saw an ad for a 2008 and it stated in the description "ABS Brakes".  Is this correct?

ABS was available in 2008.

2009 was the first year for the new frame.

You will be making a brand change and it will have significant differences.

I rented a Road glide for 4 days and will never own one after that experience.  It was a new rental with less than 120 miles when I rented it.
It would head shake for just about any reason.  Going down hill, decelerating.  If you do a search here you will find that to be a much more common
problem with the RG's than the batwing bikes.
The fixed fairing is supposed to be more stable, but in my experience, was just the opposite.

Love my 09 USE4 but it is not without problems.  Enough little stuff to make me consider alternatives if I replace it.  That being said I don't know of any bike I have ever owned that I have enjoyed more.

I test rode some of the Victory's at a local dealer.  I liked it and will be considering it, if, and when, I look for a new bike.
Not a fan of the looks of the Vision but it is a great ride.  Liked the Victory Cross Country the most.

The HD's are HOT!  You can spend $1500-$2000 in exhaust and tuners to help with that but anyone that tells you that solves the problem is full of
BS.
The 110 engines in the CVO's seem to have gotten better with 09's less problematic then the previous 2 years, but you should know that a stock
110 with more than 20000 miles and stock lifters is going to need a lifter upgrade.  Stock HD lifters in the 110's tend to fail and results can be catastrophic as it takes out the oil pump if not detected right away.  As with anything, there are exceptions to this lifter problem, but not many.

If you buy an HD I hope you like riding it as much as I like riding mine.  If you do like it....It will be for (IMO) different reasons than you like your wing.

HD will be at the top of my list when it comes time to replace this one, but they will have competition from other brands, more so now, than ever before.

I've had 2 Wings and 4 Road Glides.  My current 2012 FLTRU with ABS is my favorite.  FYI, IMHO

i had a wing in the mid 80's. had a recurring problem with one cylinder fouling - eventually it became clear that it needed new rings in that cyl and from the blow by, it was a certainty that it needed bore hone, new piston, rings.

the smallest part that i could purchase at that time from ANY source that would get me a new piston was a "rotating assy" a pressed crank with 4 rods, 4 pistons, all the goodies, a gasket set and a timing chain [they call it that but it was what ran from the crank to the flywheel]

1500 bux and change - when at that time the bike was worth at best 1500 bux.

went back to hd - sure hd has problems but so does honda. in 85 with honda the problems dont have any options to fix, no aftermarket, no other source for cranks, no other source to have a crank pressed apart and fixed.

it was ugly, sold the bike in perfect condition needing a "rotating assy" installed for 250 bux for parts.

felt the fool, got the honda because the 77 glide needed new swing arm bushings and needed new head castings because i was at the max oversize for the guides. in fact i was the fool, i should have fixed the hd and kept it, it would have never gotten down to 250 bux still running.

It's been 30 years, I'd imagine a thing or to has changed since then...  :P

...but still nobody to talk to at the gas stops... :2vrolijk_21:

Been riding HD and the "other" brands for 40 plus years now.  Owned 80's and 90's models HD (had three Ultras).  Broke out of the HD models when I bought my first wing, a 2002 1800.  Great bike with a great ride but (my opinion) no "pazazz" so speak of.  Rode it on a trip from K'ville to Phoenix and back in 5 days and while it was a hoot on the blacktop and had no issues with the seat, my knees were ready for a break when I got home.  I believe I just wasn't used to that riding position although it was comfortable until my knees started talking to me.  Went back to HD and never looked back.  Like the pre-09 frames as my '89 glide was a hoot in the twisty stuff.  However, these new frames are far better (again my opinion).  My two cents Trap, get an 09 or better CVO EG and ride it like you stole it.  You won't regret it and folks will talk to you at the gas station again... :2vrolijk_21:

I owned an ’89 GL1500 and an ‘02 GL1800.  No trailer.  Both were great bikes and handled well, due to some suspension modifications I made.  I rode both hard and on up to 5000 mile trips with no problems.

Last year I traded the GL1800 sight unseen in for the ‘07 Ultra CVO I now ride and have not looked back since.  I feel a visceral connection to this bike like no other I’ve owned over the last 40 years.  I love it and ride every day when I can.  This past year I’ve put over 15,000 miles on er with no issues.  I’d be lying if I said I didn’t question myself over the past year, but the conclusion remains the same…I loved that GL1800 and looked forward to every ride, but it’s nothing compared to this Ultra.  Zip, nada, vanilla.

You’ll need to customize it to your liking and the suspension is the first thing you’ll want to upgrade, if not already done.  Beyond that, it’s all about making it yours.  Good luck with your decision.
