Part number for a metal bit for grinding out baffles.
« on: November 02, 2012, 05:53:00 PM »

What grinding bit does everyone use to grind out the welds when removing the stock baffles in CVO mufflers?
I have a few mufflers that I need to remove the baffles.
A part number and a supply house would help.

I just used my Dremel cutting disc to cut the weld, and one of the grinding stones to smooth it over so the baffles would slip right out... and they did.   8)

This is the one I use.

http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INLMKD&PMPXNO=17796921&PMAKA=317-0280

1/4" shank. fits in any cheap 20.00 air powered die grinder. Do your self a favor and skip the dremel.

Heres how fast it woks.

Here is the one that I used  . . . It is a couple of bucks more than the one Steve uses, but it is square edged on the business end, which makes it easier to clean out the weld between the muffler can and the baffle.

Definitely skip the dremel! I spent 3 hours with a dremel on one side. Went to harbor freight got a $15 grinder (w-bits) and did the other one in 20 minutes.

My dog goes crazy when I fire up the compressor so I tried the dremel first. What a waste of time.

Steve, you rock! love the baffles, I did cut about 14 inches (wife says it was only 6", go figure) off the fiberglass wrap. Sounds and runs perfect, love the shirt too!

C pipe this winter!

I had some ball ends also but this one worked really nice...I also used a "pencil grinder" with a 1/8 shaft...I like the 1/4 shafts because they are a bit more sturdy.

love the sound!!!

Well as always Steve was right.
I watched his video and thought damn, two minutes and he's done.
Got my bits yesterday.
Did three sets in an hour this morning.
Having the right tools makes a world of difference.
Pictured below are the tools it takes to remove the baffles.
Thanks Steve!
