After looking at the cost to do a service at my local Harley dealer(s), I determined that 4 oil changes would buy me a Handy lift.  Have not regretted the purchase of the lift.  It is so much easier to do my own work now.  I wish that I had purchased the lift when I got my first bike.    :nixweiss:

Agree with the above... thanks for the info. The next service is on ME!

BTW, there was no mention of greasing the steering yoke.

That's the Flat Rate Charge for the Big Twins at my Dealer... then they throw in the high dollar cost of the actual fluids.  I actually had my services done on the Ultra, at my Mechanic (HD Certified) cheaper, and more reliable, than the Dealer charged me for my wife's XL883C.  True  8)

;D Took mine to the dealer with a low speed wobble. Naturally, they could not replicate. I offered to ride the bike with the tech alongside. That was declined. They said the neck bearing was just within spec. I said it didn't matter to me because it still wobbled. Since I did my own service and 1,000 mile they said Harley would not warrant tightening the neck bearing. $32 grand doesn't buy much I guess.

Write Mother Harley and report you've got a rideability safety issue that the dealer is refusing to address under warranty.  Then suggest your next step is to report this lack of warranty support toward a safety issue to the DOT ( https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq ).  Then forward a copy of that letter to the dealer.

The sentence following all that should be, "Then they'll adjust the damned neck."  Trouble is this is Mother Harley, the patron saint of arrogation, so who the hell knows what will happen.  It's still what you should do though.

Well on my Roadtrip home from picking up my new 2013 CVO Road Glide Custom, I stopped at Tripps Harley Davidson in Amarillo Texas to get my 1000 mile service and they only charged me $250 to do mine. Great dealer, great service and great people!

I got mine "free" with the bike as well...they said it was a $500 dollar value. The 8000km service I got for a couple hundred less at mt Baker HD than I could get it for in Canada.

During the off season my dealer charges $250 for any mileage service.  During the good weather it goes up to $299 - includes the synthetic oil.

Not sure what the charge is for the 1000 service, the 5000 service and so on.

I get pre paid maintenance 1199.00 for 3 years.  Put 20k a year or more on the bike.  So it comes out to much much less than 200 a service for me.

Heck wife has over 30K in less than a year on hers.

A few years ago I figured out 3.5 services and you were money ahead buying the pre paid.

Thought about the pre-paid myself but a good riding buddy told me years ago when I first got into Harley's that it's a good thing to have a working knowledge of how the bike works and where everything is before you head out on a trip 'cause it's a good chance you will be tinkering on it sometime (like the time I rebuilt my carb 8 times on a trip to Canada when it was just a wire that was causing my miss....long story)

:jack: Now before y'all start commenting, I know most of us on this site have much more than a good working knowledge when it comes to HD products.  However, when I first got away from the Honda/Suzuki/Yamaha brands back in 1988, my knowledge of Harley products and the more "hands on" they were compared to what I was used to, that advice from him was golden.  I've always been good with mechanical "stuff" (much to my parents anger...I would take apart EVERYTHING) so learning about what I was riding was a pleasure.

Today, it's a bit harder to tinker with fuel injection, computers and such (and in most cases MUCH better than the old days) but it's always a good eyedee to know how to change oil/primary/transmittion/remove and/or plug a tire.  Guess what I'm saying is if one doesn't want to do the major things on the 10/20/30K list, to the 5/15/25K service in your garage/carport/front yard and get familiar with it.  OK, back to the discussion... :jack:

Here's a link to a thread on how to service your Road Glide.   It's very easy to do.  Since we all have CVO's we need to use synthetic fluids.  If you have a hydraulic clutch, you don't ever have to adjust your clutch pack.  This is a great thread with photographs.  You can service your own bike in about 40 minutes and it will cost you under $100.00, plus, you might learn something.
