About half the bikes Ive done installs on have had at least one broken fairing mount. Ive found that HD dealers know this is an issue, and they usualy have the replacememnts in stock--here in Toronto anyways.

Ride safe all! Spring is almost here

Yeah Yeah Spring is almost here, actually, even though the weather man is calling for wintry mix for our area tomorrow, I think it is actually here in our area.  Daffodils have their little heads almost open everywhere. Love this time of year.  Now Pez,  I really am want to visit the statement you just made about broken fairing mounts.  That HD know about the problem.  See; http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=cvo_gen;action=display;num=1105715979;start=41#41

I just experienced a very painful exchange when I took my bike in for it's very first service and a couple of mod installs and a dyno and the service manager called me to say that when taking bike off the dyno my fairing, which earlier had no defects, was showing loss of paint and had broken fairing posts. I am now guessing these posts are what you are referring to as mounts.  When my fairing was sent to the HD Customer Service, they did not step up to the plate to say that peeling paint is a known problem and broken posts are also known.  They just said I'd been in an accident, that I know I had not in my meager five days of riding been in.  Now the dealership has my peeling paint fairing on sale on ebay, no mention of broken mounts.

Another "Makes you go MMMMMM!"

Towlanerider, Not mentioning the broken mounts, but PEZ says that this is 50% common on bikes he does installs on, and that the HD Shops have the replacement parts in stock as it is so common in the Toronto area, why would they not just simply replace the broken mounts. They really cannot be that hard to replace can they?

Just a note to say that the HogTunes ROCK!  Got 'em installed today and much better sound than the 'premium' HD speakers we have stock.  Great job, Pez.

Got mine ordered the other night.  Pez says they'll be on the Fed Ex truck come Monday.  I blew out my right speaker this past weekend, so these are coming right on time!

I'm havin' problems fittin' it in the fairing however I am determined to make it work. All I can say so far is I hooked up the amp in the garage it sounded so good and clean and loud it was the encouragement I needed to make it fit. Where I am at right now is, I purchased some 1/8" plexiglass and am making a new housing for the amp. It currently measures 6-1/2" X 11-1/2" X 2" when I am done it will measure 5-1/2" X 10-1/2" X 1-1/2"
and the one that matters is the 1-1/2" height I will be able to fit it under the gauges and "get R done"!!!. I know the routine pictures will follow upon completion, we had some ridin' weather this weekend so I had to put it back together temporarily hopefully I will find some time this week to assemble the housing!! When I first tried the HogTunes speakers I said that they were better than the factory speakers but only in that they did produce a little more bass. Since that time I have had the opportunity to put some miles on the bike and where the HogTunes really shine is on the road at speed. Especially since I put the Rineharts on, the speakers have really impressed me by being able to play loud enough to hear at high speeds over the exhaust and wind noise and to do it without noticable distortion. Thumbs up Pez !

RR Steve

I had lots of positive feedback on HOGTUNES, but yours made it all worth while!! Your observation is exactly what I set out to do when the concept of Hogtunes started. Theres some guy on Harley Tech talk saying he has compared polks to Hogtunes, and that mine were nothing special, and the Polks were the way to go. I would agree that at stand still the Polks may infact sound better, but at speed--NO FRICKEN WAY!

Car audio companies are taking the mid range out--leaving lots of bass, and lots of treble. Youngsters confusing rap with actual music are acustomed to this sound--this is a major reason car speakers do not work on a bike---WELL that is. All of the sound where our ears are most sensitive is taken away---how the hell does that work with Bubs at 90?

Anyways-Im done now--Thanks eh!--PEZ  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

The lower right screw is a B'ch...always wants to strip itseld...the rigid brake line affects clearance...I am seriously considering changing to a hex screw  to use a socket instead of torx.

FWIW, whenever messing with those two lower screws I always hold the end of an ignition magnet (like we used to use when we had points and condensor and had to fish out those little screws) up against the screw as it backs out.  I nearly alwayws drop one of those little buggers if I'm not catching it with a magnet.  And darned if I knew where they go sometimes.
