I've Gone Chubby- Wild one 578 Install
« on: December 11, 2012, 08:49:51 PM »

I pulled the trigger on another mod after some long riding Neck Pain, I had Yaffe Monkey bars on my Stretched 2010 Street Glide and loved the Height. Ive always wanted the Chubby Bars on my old Ultra but sold it before I did it . The install was simple it took me about 3-1/2 Hours in my garage. Nothing needed at all, used stock clutch cable just moved to other side its snug at full turn but ok its Hydraulic. Brake was plenty long. The hardest thing about install was plugging the heated grip connector back in, I forgot it while it was off. Pulling the wires took all of 15 minutes total. The Wild one bars are very smooth. These are incredible Bars, Quality, Chrome plating, everything about them.
For anyone doing this themselves, Read the Wild one Website, cut the clutch side bar a 1/2" to make room for heated grip contoller, I used a copper tubing cutter that has rollers on it for a smooth cut then used a reamer to smooth the edge, total time 10 minutes. Make your wire chart like they did on site.
I would have liked them back about 1/2- 3/4 " more but the GPS is there. I have really long arms 37" sleeve @6 feet tall.
Quick test ride and all is perfect. Would have riden longer buts its a rainy night here in Miami.
Here are a couple pics in my garage

Been having them on my bike for a while, and they are a very nice upgrade.

Save pics to photobucket and copy path and paste to body of message for multiple pics. Just my .02...

Wow...  good looking bars.!

These look similar to the 575's but look like they have more pull back...    Are there any vertically challenged folks out there using these as opposed to the 575's..?  I'm 5' 9" w/ 31" inseam.  The stock bars make it rough on tight turns etc...

Been toying with the idea of mini apes...

100 times better King. I think someone said on here they should come standard.. I love the 577's but they were just a bit tall for me but look way better on the bike than the 578's. And the law down here gets all over you down here if your bars are higher than your shoulder.

Looking at your pics, I see I'm going to have to get the speaker trim ring for the dash.  I like the way it looks (not gaudy)on your bike :orange:, and I already put them on the back speakers.  575's, 578's, 577's, it's all good! :2vrolijk_21:

I've got 575's and think they are a great improvement over stock bars.  However, I do wish they were a little taller and a little closer by an inch or two.  Do the 578's make that happen compared to the 575's?

Cowboy,

These bars are 2-1/2 " Taller than the 575's and the pull Back is about stock or an inch closer than stock but you can adjust these. Just sit on them while someone holds the bike and get in your riding position and snug em up. These are actually perfect for anyone 6' or over with a 34-37" sleeve. My hands are now right at shoulder level instead of down under my chest. You can not go wrong with these and they look incredible on the bike, Fat and the chrome finish is morror

Dirt,

They are about 3" taller than stock when pushed back against the fairing all the way. Look at your bars on your bike and you will see they are right in the middle of your front speakers. Now look at my pics and you will see my bars are about an inch above the front speakers. Hope this helps brother. Stay warm dude, its 74 and clear tonight Im headed out riding to bike night.

I have a 2013 cvo ultra.  The clutch cable doesn't go thru the fairing anymore it comes out where the handle bar comes out between the inner fairing, outer fairing and switch housing.  I am thinking I need to lengthen the clutch and brake lines.  Has anyone done this yet to a 2013,  and if so how much longer did the cables need to be?  Wild ones makes and adapter for the 1.25 inch bars now.

I would think that would give you more room like the brake line on the other side. If mine came out under the bars I would defnately have had more room. As I said before I didn't need to use either clutch or brake and Danner55 just installed same bars on his 2011 and we didn't need either as well. Again, depending on who installs like a dealer he is more inclined to charge you more and tell you that you need clutch and brake lines, he gets paid by the job plus time. To do install with Brake and clutch cables on CVO your looking at another 4 hour Labor add minimum plus Cables and Fluidsand Tranny gasket another 300.00 in parts. Find a solid Indy if yuor not doing yourself or a Harley Dealer you trust thats done a ton of bars.. Everyone down here changes bars for comfort and mostly looks.
