ECM OUT of Service
« on: December 17, 2012, 12:01:15 PM »

I don’t know how to start this thread but what I know is (I’ve been f$%*ed)

3 days back when I was ready to go on ride the engine won’t run, when I check the codes it appear P1351 & P1354, however, I called dealer to arrange for picking up the bike.

As usual before I hand over the bike to the dealer I tried to restore the original MAP back as am using TTS from Fullsac but it was not working as alert show up that ECM is not connected, however, I lift everything as it is.

Today (15 minutes ago) dealer called and advised that my ECM is burned OUT!! and they will replace it with new ECM (on warranty), it will take 10 to 15 working days till it reach Bahrain.

I bought the latest TTS from Fullsac 4 month ago and everything was perfect with Steve MAP, however, refer to TTS manual it will only tune 1 ECM, reading other threads in regard to TTS I understand that TTS will not help me on programming the new ECM.

I have asked the dealer to give me the old ECM but they said that they will return the ECM to US as long as on warranty.

Anyway can’t blame anyone (I’m unlucky person).

I was happy with TTS and the great performance but from now I will consider what IF I buy new TTS and such matter happen again on future, it only means to me spinning money on NOTHING.

Just question is there any other products which can be more reasonable and friendly in case of such problems?

Thanks

1351 and 1354 are ignition coil open/low codes. If the coil is not connected this will occur. The likelyhood of an ECM failing is VERY low. Did the dealer check the coil connections?

If the dealer is trying to run diagnostics with your TTS map installed, they may be led to believe that the ECM is bad even if its OK.  If it is impossible to reload your mte map, then you may indeed need a new ECM to get going.
TTS is able to marry your TTS to the new ECM if your ECM is indeed bad.  They will need both ECMs and your TTS interface however.  Contact them and they will hook you up.  They may even be able to return your origional ECM to the stock configuration.

Think I read that with the MT8 version TTS files the dealer cannot use Digital Technician.  No idea about the ECM but like hd-dude said, an ECM just going bad is very unusual.

One other thought - when you tried to re-load the original map did you have the 'run/stop' switch in the 'run' position.  It must be.  Otherwise you cannot communicate with the ECM.  Don't ask me how I know this, lol.   ;D

YES, The dealer can do all of the diagnostics as if the TTS software had not been installed.

After visiting the dealer in regards to my problem I asked them to explain more about the exact problem, they take me inside to the bike and tried to connect their system to the ECM but it was unable to retrieve any information from the ECM, this confirmed why I was unable to restore the original MAP.

I ask them what could do this failure the answer was we don’t know, and they insist to send the ECM back US for more inspection and will not handed over to me as warranty still on.

The dealer policy in Bahrain is if any things installed in the bike such like aftermarket products it will result on canceling the warranty (I have 13 month remaining on warranty)

Now the question is: if the monkeys in Bahrain could not figure out or connect to ECM would the other monkeys in US able to check the ECM?

1-If yes, that’s mean my warranty we be cancelled as they will figured out that my bike is tuned with aftermarket products, any idea how much it gonna cost for new ECM?? and is there any aftermarket ECM which is better than the original one?

2-If no (I will pray for that), after repairing my bike can I use the bike without any tune for at least 8 month (summer 5 month in Bahrain) till my warranty is vanish (I have S&S true dual and Fullsac 225 cores) is this will affect my engine or it will be OK.

Going back to TTS, I have no further comments  on this product as it’s the best tune I have ever used and I will again buy this product, however, I have suggestion to the guys at TTS if it possible, TTS tuner reading only the ECM PN for programing, when you get ECM information it will read the VIN too, could this product modified to read either the ECM PN or VIN in case you lost the original ECM?

Thanks,

Sarhan

Now the question is: if the monkeys in Bahrain could not figure out or connect to ECM would the other monkeys in US able to check the ECM?Exactly why I do not let monkeys work on mine here in the US we used trained professionals...you should be able to purchase an ecm -- not get it covered under warranty--and send all back to TTS but from overseas to here and lost riding time may be worth just buying the new TTS.  TTS just like most others including HD SEPRO TUNER, marry the vin and part number so they are only good for 1 bike.  I haven't been able to figure a work around on that yet...good luck but it appears the dealer is trying to work to get this covered under warranty.

What was the map installed was it an MT7 or an MT8?   If it is an MT8 the dealer wont be able to read the ECM and believe it has failed.  My question is with a new ECM or swapped one, can they talk to the ECM?

Offers have been made to try and help the customer out via emails from TTS. At this point the ball is in the customers court so to speak but I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday.
