I remember reading a book called "Halftime" (great read by the way) when I was 40. Knowing I wasn't old yet but realizing that my life was probably about 1/2 way through.

I remember blowing through my 50th year and not feeling like I was getting old but when I hit 55 this vivid memory of my dad's 55th birthday came to mind. I remembered thinking back then "dad is 'old' now because he is 55". That was a tough one to face and I had to realize I was in the 3rd period of the hockey game. I'm 57 now and in a few years, I'll enter the 4th quarter of the football game. My body doesn't function as well as it used to and I don't have the stamina or physical capabilities I had a few years ago. Not sure how much longer I can ride the Wide Glide 600 miles in one day. Might have to go to a bagger (probably a BMW 1600) and, eventually something with 3 wheels might be the ride. Want to have my face in the wind as long as possible! I don't think about it a lot. I've been blessed beyond all possible understanding. My wife and I don't have kids so we pretty much remain kids ourselves, we just move a little slower.

I do believe that every day is a gift and I try to open each one fully and appreciate them for the gifts that they are. I thank God that I can still get up in the middle of the night and walk to the head under my own power. The 'stream' is weaker but I can still shoot by myself. That may not always be the case. We lost a few great friends this year to cancer and other maladies and we find ourselves attending more funerals than weddings these days, I think that is a sign of aging. But we don't let the 'old folks' image rest upon us for long.

Too much life yet to live and too many miles yet to put on the bike! Hope to meet some of you along the way!

Still amazed that I have made it this long (plenty of stupid chit done at various stages of life).....so every day is a new experience still!

I always have said that I learn something new each day, when I stop doing this, I will be old.

realized I was "old" when I no longer got to eat at the kids table at family get togethers...although the nieces & nephews still congregate with me and want to go do fun stuff that would normally not be allowed...but since they are with a "grown up" its all OK...my guys at work ALL cant believe I am as old as I am
but i am only 53... :2vrolijk_21:

i used to be an avid water skier. Up till around 46 (im 57) now i never missed a spring/summer of many water ski weekend outings with family and friends.    A little over 10 years ago i got really busy with work stuff, un scheduled trips etc..  and lost touch with my water ski gang until last sumer when someone organized a water ski get together reunion. Everyone showed up including my self..  First day, i had to prove to everyone i still had the touch and i knew i did when I launched off with my first jump start attempt. I water skied my heart off the first day... The second day was another story,, i could not move from my sleeping bag.. Every muscle in my body was so damn sore, it was terrible.  I just told myself,,"man your too old for this chit" and that was last time i waterskied.   ;D

Like the song says....When my mind makes a promise that my body can't keep.

That's already happened a few times, so I guess I'm old.

When AARP started sending info and calling

No, getting on AARP's mailing list just means that you're approaching "old".  You're old when you get on this mailing list!

Age is only a number. It's what's in your heart and your head.

i used to be an avid water skier.

I'm looking out our window at the glassy water and feeling the urge, but my knees hurt just thinking about it. Have a Merry Christmas.  Doc

Forget about the skiing and focus on the foreground objects... :drink:
