Contemplating a FLHTCUSE8
« on: December 26, 2012, 06:39:14 AM »

In attempt to give my wife a ride she / her back........ can endure I'm contemplating a FLHTCUSE8. Can someone tell me if the seat on the SE Ultra is the same seat as the standard Ultra or Limited? I am planning on doing an extended test session (1 week) with a standard (because that's whats available for something like this) but want to know if it might still be a better ride on the SE Ultra's seat??

Thanks!!

it is different.  the CVO ultra has a hammock style heated seat with the rider and passenger backrest.  the passenger backrest has a lumbar support the is adjustable both vertically and horizontally.

The FLHTCUSE8 comes with the heated hammock seat in leather.  It is a dual hammock meaning it has the sling for both the rider and passenger.  The seating position is completely different than what is on the Ultra or Limited (for the rider).  The CVO Ultra seat will be completely different is what I am trying to say in looks and comfort (in a better way than stock).  The CVO also comes standard with a rider backrest.

If you buy the CVO and she likes the standard seat better, you can always change to that seat (but probably won't be the case)..

Hope this helps.

I have ridden this MC and I can tell you that the seat is as nice as a lazy boy sitting in your living room  ::)

The CVO has the hammock style seat with a leather insert through the middle, I am unsure of the Limited. I have a FLHTCUSE8 and my wife and I both find the seat very comfortable.  The only complaint so far has been the limited room the Lumbar support moves the passenger forward about 1.5 inches closer to the rider back rest.  Wife is not a big lady but I am going to be looking into the kit to move the tour pack back for her.  I have seen other CVOs with this and it really opens the passenger seat area up.  Other than that she really likes the Lumbar support and the heated seat.

One thing to think about is if your wife has lower back problems or has problems fitting she may appreciate something like the George Anderson Tour Pac relocator bracket to move the Pac back several inches so the backrest doesn't dig into her back and she has room to move around some.

Already figured we have to do this, I know she will want the extra room.

Thanks everybody for your comments, guess I need to put her on the SE Ultra and see what she thinks.

I think you will both enjoy the comfort and ride quaility that a new SEUC will provide. I changed the OEM seat on my 2009 SEUC to the 2012 SEUC seat and it was a hugh improvement over my original seat. The George Anderson tour pack relocator bracket was the first item I bought and changed on my bike.

Kuryakyn makes the best tour pac repositioner out there. Can move tour pac at will with only a flip of a couple binders. Can move up to 4 inches and anywhere between. Very sturdy. Actualy shakes less than stock set up

I came off a 2011 Ultra Limited FLHTK and the first thing I noticed is that the Hammock seat was so much better it actually made the stock Harley air shocks tolerable.  Harley made a mistake putting such a good seat on the bike & heated at that, so I won't be buying a replacement seat anytime soon. ;D

This is great to hear!! I test rode a FLHTK after a four hour ride on my Heritage and decided I had to have a touring bike. My wife and I love to ride but were both having back issues after a couple of hours on my Heritage. I ordered a 2013 SEUC hoping it would be even better than the Limited. It should be in in a couple of weeks and I can't wait.

JoeVibe, I rode a Heritage for many years then in 2005 I test rode an Ultra Classic.  I was sold immediately and ordered one the same day, after my Ultra came in I could not understand why I waited as long as I did to make the move.  The Heritage is a nice bike but put a few thousand miles on the Ultra and you will never look back.   ;D   I put 50,000 miles on that one and now have moved up to a FLHTCUSE8

The seat on the newer CVO UC's is by FAR the best seat HD has ever made, IMO.  Get the George Anderson TP plate and move it back as much as necessary.  There are holes for 1", 1.5", and 2.5".  My wife is 5'3" and about 130lbs and the 1.5" holes are perfect for her.  To improve the ride even more, replace the stock air shocks with something better, and you might even consider replacing the fork suspension with something like the Progressive Montotubes.  Suspension upgrades make a night and day difference in the ride and handling of the CVO SEUC, or any HD Bagger for that matter.

Thanks Jeff. About 45 minutes on an FLHTK was all I needed. Then it was just a matter of finding a color I liked. When I saw the Typhoon Maroon SE8 it was over. I ordered one the day I saw it and, like I said, mine is scheduled to be in in mid-January. I'm already planning trips that I wouldn't consider on my Heritage.

I'm getting a bunch of ideas of what I'll need to be doing when the bike gets here. It sounds like a tourpak relocation plate will be on the list.
