Most everything is gone now, Mike!  Still got the cover, the original exhaust (which will also fit the SERG, though) and one or two odd and ends.  But if I had it to do all over again, I'd let it go as I pulled everything off.  Less stuff to look at, drag around and try to keep organized that way .... And probably would have gotten more for it back in the day.  :2vrolijk_21:

The parts are worth what you can get for them not what they are retail/new.  I don't like clutter so I get ride of them.

My point exactly. Keep them because you can not get what they are worth.

I've got a ton of take off spare parts and thought I could make some money off EBay...  Well, seems everyone else does too,  EBay has pages of this stuff and its all going for penny's...   Not worth the trouble,   So I trashed most of it.. :nixweiss:

Looks like at least 10 votes for keep 'em...ad my vote to that total.  Always good to keep the extra parts (stock or otherwise).  One other thing, it's something I picked up years ago.  Keep the install instructions for anything you buy/install, too.  Never know when they might come in handy.  I have a file with all my install instruction sheets.  My two cents.... :2vrolijk_21:

To add to that $0.02, I scan all of the instructions and keep them in my dropbox account

I'd say it depends: there is no use imaginable to keep engine part for instance: nobody will appreciate it if you hand over the 255 cams or stock cylinders when selling the bike especially as this would require a retune. And they won't get any better in your barn either  ;)

A different story may be the stock seat or amplifier if you don't intend to keep the bike for long - so you may want to transfer your Corbin or Hawg Wire parts to the next bike and reinstall the stock items. With non CVO Harleys it's sometimes worth the hazzle to reinstall stock parts before sale and transfer the custom replacement to the next bike as nobody will give you a cent for leaving them on - but with a CVO there is only a small amount of parts eligible for this option.

As for the other screws, caps and the like - I usually get rid of those little things immediately, but I'm a city kid and don't have a big barn to store the mechanical history of half a dozend Harleys  ;D

Exeption are the stock mufflers - those I always keep just in case as I may have to temporarily reinstall them for an inspection over here in Germany  ::)

It seems a bit of both, keep and get rid of, might be the logical choice. We have one "numbered" bike that would take about two hours to put back to original condition so we have held onto the few oem parts that we removed. On the other hand I have two bikes worth of parts hanging in the rafters that the bikes are gone.  I sold the bikes as they were and that's the way they wanted them. No one wanted to put the time or $ into reinstalling the stuff that originally came off and the mods that I had on those bikes wouldn't fit the new bikes that I replaced them with.

I would vote to keep what is easy to put back on the bike or is rare enough that you can't replace it otherwise find a home for the rest. Ultimately the only thing really worth collecting is the money!  :2vrolijk_21:

I do have to admit to one thing, for the last two trade-ins, I removed some chrome bolt on items and moved to the new bike.  Such as the highway pegs, I don't like the stock CVO pegs because they don't reach back far enough for me.  Also, re-installed stock mufflers and install the V&Hs on the CVO and kept the stock CVO mufflers.

BTW, on my ultra limited, I installed the XM radio module which I removed before trading it on the CVO so now I have an XM module for sale.

I never gave it much thought, but I've always kept my original parts. Still have pieces from my '95 Fat Boy, and see no need to sell them off. One advantage to retaining parts is that, after 18 years, I still have NOS items available if I ever need them, but that's not too likely.

I'm sure that between all of us we could probably build a complete bike just from the take off parts laying around.

I know I have all the stock controls, exhaust, wheels and sheet metal for a 2001 Fatboy.... Hmmmm, maybe it's time to look for another project??

I have a 2013 FLTRXSE2 ANV. Should I keep the stock parts as I do my mods. I have read other threads here. It seams that there are certain Models and years will be more collectible the others. If HD is not going make a RG in 2014 will that make a 2013 more collectible. I wont go back to stock.

Ken

I always keep the stock parts.  When I sell the bike (which you will eventually) then I put the stock parts back on and sell the accessories.  The dealer won't give you squat for accessories when you trade on, so you may as well take 'em off and get what you can back on them.

Then, use that money as a start on mods for your new bike!

I keep any stock parts that I will put back on the bike to trade or sell.  For instance, I will keep the stock headlamps and put them back on the bike.  I'm not going to buy LED headlamps again if they are going to fit on my new bike.  Anything that I'm not going to put back on the bike gets sold...eventually.  I focus on high ticket items that I will surely want I my new bike and are quick to swap out, and then any small items that are real quick to swap out also.

I now sell or give away everything.  I have found over the years it's just not worth it to keep everthing.  I move alot so paying and moving all of the bike/car parts, well sucks.  Then it was piled up in boxes everywhere just taking up space - which led to more expense as I used that for a reason for needing a bigger garage.

So sell it while its hot and you can get good money for it or hold for ....  and sell it for nothing.

So far I've been hoarding the stock parts but, I will be selling all of them off pretty soon
