Got bored and this happened
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:57:00 PM »

I was looking at the heatshields on the CUSE6 and decided to try something to dress them up a bit...

I used a vinyl materiel from here:  http://www.metrorestyling.com/

It is a 3 dimensional vinyl that replicates the look of carbon fiber. It went on rather easily.  after cleaning the plastic with some rubbing alchohol I took my time and using the wife's hairdryer to "soften" it up a little I worked the vinyl slowly to follow the curvature of the part.

And it was only about $10.00 for a 4' X 1' piece  :2vrolijk_21:   I even have some left for some other small areas if I chose.

While I was applying vinyl to the heat shields I also did this to the tourpack -- I ordered this decal a while ago specifically for this spot...

Did you remove the heat shields or install while they were on the bike?

Did you remove the heat shields or install while they were on the bike?

I removed them from the bike for the install, made it a lot easier to position the part to get the pattern flowing the direction I wanted, and it would be impossible to get the wrap all the way around the edges so there are no seams visible with them on the bike.

One note: the top bolt on the right side was the worst, it was a good thing I have ratcheting box wrenches since the cylinder head prevents a socket and ratchet from being used(even a 1/4" drive). But even with that the removal/install was easy enough.

It's actually the BLACK 3D Flexible Wrap,( this page:  ww.metrorestyling.com/Metro-3D-Carbon-Fiber-Wrap-Vinyl-s/12377.htm  )  I was thinking of going with the dark grey or maybe one of the blue colors but I decided to stick with the black and I like the result. I think the area around the glove boxes on the lowers may be next experiment.

BTW: The photos are without a flash, just the overhead lights in the garage turned on. The material really catches and reflects the light nicely.
