damn Don..you have out done yourself this time...
so, in spite of all the bullchit...
very nice!
Scot, I don't know about outdone. But it is at least done [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] !
Praise Harley for small favors.
Just got back from putting 37 miles on it. All running around town just up and down through the gears and from stoplights to 50mph or so over and over again. Couple of minor detail things to finish up. Fuel line to change out and a couple of knick-knacks to remount. But for all intents and purposes she's done. Sitting out in the garage right now draining the oil out of it that was in just for the first few miles. So I'm pretty much a happy camper right now. As always, the moral support is appreciated [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] !
I know it's not right to covet another buddy's bike, but.........well, it is very nice, to say the least, Don. Hope it runs as sweet as it looks. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] har! [smiley=drink.gif] spyder
Thanks Spyder. You don't need to covet. You can throw a leg over and take it down the street anytime we're in the same parking lot.
Haven't run it yet where I can really say how it will run. First impressions are that the power band is going to be wider. It's got a bit more pull with a bit less lug down at 2000-2200 that is definitely noticable. Nice pulling away from a light more sharply and smoothly. "Snap" is increased in the mid range too. But I've not pushed it enough yet to have any idea how much or where else any differences might be. Those differences are part of the head work, pistons and cams.
From the change in the ignition system I'm guessing is that the bikes response isn't just sharper it is smoother. The idle is a slightly different lope now too. That's the cams, increased compression and the ignition system. At least for early onset analysis one of the nicest things about the ignition system is that I could ride the bike tonight though. Self tuning closed loop so no worries about "is it too lean, am I going to get something hot, yada yada yada." Screw all that. Set the system up and then just get on it and go.
Whether it was just my imagination or more work actually being done by the system itself the bike did seem to run more smartly and idle better at the end of the evening's little run around town than it did at the beginning. Strictly to make myself feel even better about it right now I'm perfectly willing to say categorically and absolutely that the ignition system was working and changing and adjusting and learning all to make my bike love me more the whole time I was riding it tonight.
WhooooHoooo! Are you giggling yet??? I hope to see that in person someday! Best of luck with the 1st ride!!
