First 2007 FLHTCUSE2
« on: January 29, 2013, 08:14:52 PM »

Greetings,

It has been 10 years since I last rode. At the time I was riding a neighbor's 80ci Electra Glide. The old guy wasn't able to ride any more and he didn't want it to just sit. I would take it out on Saturdays and always made time to sit and visit with him during the week. Sadly my wife and I had to move to help care for my father.

Now I'm getting ready to buy my first Harley and I've found a decent deal on a 2007 FLHTCUSE2 with a H-D dealer. My question is this: What advice can you share on getting comfortable on it? I keep hearing "110 inches is a lot of engine!" and the last one I rode was 80. I have an over abundance of confidence but I'm always willing to listen to advice.

Thanks.

                 Welcome from The Island!

It had been twenty years to the week-end since I had last ridden...I took the bike course again, as much for getting some practice on a smaller bike as for the insurance price reduction.

DO your research here on that model year 110 motor. Not sure if I read it on this forum or another but one of the years either 07 or 08 had several engine problems with the 110. Hate to throw a wrench brother and I hope I'm wrong just want to give you a heads up. Also things to consider are the frame change in 2009 and later were huge improvements over older models.

I appreciate the responses. Thank you very much.

I will take a road course, no doubt about that. It will get me moving again and help with the insurance rates.
The dealer has confirmed the 0905 and 0906 recall work has been completed on the engine.
Practice? Every chance I get.

Any other advice?

What color?   I'd seriously consider the extended warranty.

Red and black.
I will be getting a two year extended warranty. I can chain on other years as I go if I understand the program correctly.
Talking with other riders the extended warranty pays for itself over time.

Been a Harley rider for 46 yrs. Don't expect rocketship speed. Yes, the motor is much larger but it is also the heaviest scoot they make!! Think they had rear cylinder problems. If the milage is up there, try and get them to throw in a 2/3 yr warrenty. And also: Welcome to the world of SE from NC :apple:

Tony, sounds like a good deal if the money is right.  How many miles (don't believe I saw that anywhere)?  The extended warranty should take care of any issues you may have and is a good investment on a used bike if you don't know/aren't sure of the maintenance/type of owner had it previously.

My wife took the riders course again after not riding her own for 25 years.  She rode dirt bikes when she was a kid and knew how to ride but the course was a good refresher for her.  I would proceed with the course if it's been a while since butt was in the saddle plus you already know how to ride, just need to get your feet back under you.
Let us know how this goes and welcome to the site from East Tennessee.  Keep it between the ditches... :bananarock:

Take a good listen to the rocker boxes a lot of them were not clearanced correctly even with the 905/906 etc.   Also find out which compression releases you have, again a lot of these were not put in tight and ended up coming loose our out and ruining threads in the heads.

Tuners, if the bike comes with a original Harley Screaming Eagle Race tuner, you will want to pay 100.00 and send that to TTS And have it updated as the maps for the 07's were umm not exactly a good thing especially with all the new functionality that was released.   If you do not have a tuner for the bike no worries the products out now support the features.

Good luck with the new bike and enjoy.   This site will surely help you outfit the bike, mod the bike, meet lots of people and spend some ok ok (LOTS) of $.

Rarely have I come across an online community as engaged as this one.
You all rock!

Thanks for the tuner and other tips. Believe me, I will follow up on all of it.
For spending extra money...yeah that's already happening. I saw the home mods to somebody's Yellow Jacket and I plan on doing a few similar things to this one.

Hopefully both the heads were replaced on the "recall" as should be.

Thanks trapperdog.
Checking the site information I see this course is held at the dealership where I'm buying the bike. Maybe I can talk the dealer into included that class in my purchase.

Hi Tony,

Nice bike! I bought the same one 3 months ago... if the recall has been done, it is a bike with little trouble, 110Ci is a lot, but the weight is it also, so don't worry as if you wouldn't be able to master the bike!
As said before, take a Ride like a Pro course and everything will be all right! Enjoy your new scooter and keep it safe!

Welcome from Belgium!

@Unbalanced, thanks for the tuner tips.
