replace stock front fender
« on: March 18, 2013, 12:29:31 PM »

Hi All,

Just back from bike week. WOW... lots of great looking bikes. One thing that caught my eye was a wrap front fender instead of stock.

Has anyone changed theirs? Not looking to get into a larger front wheel will keep the 19.

Thanks

I too am looking at that...I have a small dent in my stock fender, and figure might as well go with something different. Paint might be an issue though.

I just got my Klockworks Level fender in last week. It works with the 19" wheel/stock profile tire. I've got to send it off to AJ's to get it painted to match (after I test fit this weekend). The fender seems way better quality than the stock HD fender; no surprise there.

I just got my Klockwerks fender back as well.  Had it painted and pinned at Gunslingers, and it looks awesome.  I'll try and get some pictures posted as soon as I get it on the bike. I know, I know... :worthless:

Added the Klockwerks Slicer when I did my conversion.  Much better than the stock fender.

And that is a 19" with chrome/polished rotors.

I think the Slicer looks better than my Level. I like how it shows more of the wheel. Oh well.

I tried Gunslingers first on some recommendations but they said they are backed up several months with work for the MoCo. I have seen AJ's work as well and it is awesome too so that's who I will go with.

Thanks for the picture of the slicer. I was going to go with the level till I saw this. Looking forward to any additional pics. I did not realize they need the stock fender to match?? May wait till winter, dont want bike down for 30+ days.

Fish eye.. What lift is that? Very nice! Does it need a compresser?

SESG12, here are some additional pics from my install.  I was going to use Gunslingers since they had done other work for me, but they were months out on customer bikes.  My local painter is a darn perfectionist, so it worked out.  I'm glad to have worked with him on this project.  I bought my fender on eBay from Riders Discount.  Don't forget, you'll also need the spacer blocks because the fender mount is narrower.  The stocker mounts flare out to attach to the forks.  I also got those from the same seller as well.

And yes, to get a good match, you'll want to send your stock fender back as well for comparison.  Gunslinger has openings available now.  They've been calling me to bring in my Road Glide pieces, but as I mentioned, I found a different painter who is also local.  Gunslingers is about 75 minutes north of me...

The lift is a J&S Jack.  It's American made and solid as a rock.  I used to have/use a yellow Sears jack and it was quite wobbly.  The J&S is awesome.  You can climb up and sit on the bike while it's on there, and no need to strap it down.  Plus, it wheels easy across the floor.  It's a foot pumper, but they also have an air model too.  The foot pumper is less expensive, plus I wouldn't want to have to fill my compressor each time I jacked the bike up.

Fisheye.. Let me first say thank you for the additional pics. You have a beautiful RG! Based on a video I saw on youtube from klock works I was going to use the (level) fender. But after seeing the (slicer )on yours I think I'm headed in that direction. Hope it looks as good on my SG. Yes, I see that I need the spacer blocks. My HD dealer can get me the fender, blocks and match paint all with my MVP discount. I was going to purchase the klock fender not sure the price difference from them vs Riders Discount?

I really like the lift, sounds like a good B-day present to myself!

Badger Mike & David G,

Can you post pics once completed. I really want to see the level vs the slicer. I'm now really up in the air which fender to go with. I like the slicer look, but want to keep the bagger look with the level..

I'm going to test fit mine Saturday and will post some pictures. It will be the EDP coating but maybe it will help you on the choice. When I talked to AJ, he said he only needed the fender for a week to get the match and layout correct. He would ship it back when he had the match done, then the new fender when it was complete. Probably a little optimistic but I'm going to give it a try.
