Have to agree with AMP here, the high run out would always be in the back of my mind.  As I mentioned I had the same run out of .0045 and two years later without any modification of any kind the run out more than doubled.  As much as I would have liked to do a build all the info I read on this site was to make sure the bottom end held together, and that's where it's gets expensive real quick.  Run out never gets better, there is only one direction for it to go and that is South.  It's a gamble either way, you may do the build and go years without any problems, or there is the worst scenario.

Cowboy PLEASE do yourself a favor and do the bottom end now. Why pull the motor partially down just to have to do it again in a year or two later. A motor is only as good as it lower end. PERIOD!!!!

Chad sent my heads to T-Man the last week in Feb., at that time they stated that it would be three to four weeks to get them done.  Chad called last Friday the 22nd and TR told him that they wouldn't be done until the week of April 22nd.

Well, I guess that gives me time to get the bottom end done.  I called Dark Horse and talked to John, he said that they could get them done in about 3 weeks.

Any thoughts?

I NEED TO CHANGE THE TITLE TO "APRIL ENGINE BUILD".  I HOPE I DON'T NEED TO CHANGE IT TO "MAY ENGINE BUILD"!!!!!!!!

So here is the plan:

Sent the Heads to T-Man he is to reshape, hand finish and give me 2.130 intake and 1.630 exhaust.
Sent the bottom end to Dark Horse, True, Balance, Weld, Plug, Rods, Timken, The Works
T-Man 600 cam
SE 58mm Throttle Body
Woods Lifters
SE 5.3 Injectors
Fuel Moto Tapered Push Rods
SE 10.5 Pistons
TTS Mastertuner by Chad at Highway 65 Harley in Indianola, Iowa

The Heads are back from T-Man and the bottom end is back from Darkhorse.  Should be back on the road by the weekend!  Possible snow here on Friday, so I probably won't get a chance to ride for a while.

Got the new Biketronics complete system with upgraded HAT speakers installed, so it will be interesting to see how all this turns out!

Looks like that will be a great build, Cowboy!

I want to do essentially that same thing at some point. If/when I do, I am going to do the whole bottom end with a welded/balanced crank and the Timken bearing at the same time, so I don't have to worry about the bottom end being able to handle the increased load. Never been a fan of the new style pressed-together crank assembly anyway. I want as little runout as I can get.

Good luck with the mods!

Ken

I think the 'old style Harley cranks were pressed together also

Not 'Fla' the earlier cranks were pulled together with nuts on the end of the pinion, crank, and sprocket shafts
