Paid close attention to your afteractions Gary knowing then it was a one-of-these-days things.  I don't do the off-the-beaten-path travel nearly so much as I used to so don't have to be concerned about boogeymen.  Can still throw the (ever bigger) kid up on shoulders or join her on the trampoline (though this gets aghast looks from the orthopod).  The other bits still function mostly without detriment as well.  If I paid attention to it it would hurt like a bitch sometimes.  But I'm still able to not pay attention to it.  Like you and Rog and Brian, all of whom I have or will watch going through, will know when it's time.  But I'm still 23 years old so we're not there yet.
Puff, puff, pass. :beatnik:

Roger you may want to get some of what Don is smoking to relieve any after surgery discomfort. ;) :D

Cindy would never say I'm beyond 16 on the age scale but I'd say on your scale I'm probably 24 and the past 6 months haven't been much fun.  just recently I usually awaken from the hip during the night a couple of times.

You will definitely know!

That begins to speak to something I've begun to notice Rog.  I'm a side sleeper.  And I can't sleep on my left side most of the time anymore.  Will wake up having moved in to these weird positions where I'm on the face rather than side of the left hip laying mostly on my stomach with the left leg sticking straight down and the right one tucked up for balance to keep me from laying completely on my stomach.  Getting up from being completely flat isn't fun so guess I'm avoiding that.

Starting on the right side isn't a good option either though.  Something about the way the weight distributes of the left leg doesn't stay propped right on top of the right is not a good thing.  But, oh yeah, the old recliner is awesome :drink: .

(and I am too 23, no matter what Gary says)

Yeah......  ::)

I'm going to be 23 for a little while longer.  Will be keeping up with as much as you feel like sharing.  Be well, heal fast, feel good and ride soon.

No advice to offer Rog.  Only good wishes for an effective replacement and a fast recovery with as little discomfort as possible.  Still remember Gary's and Brian Webb's afteraction reports.  Theirs and the reports of others who have had the work done nearly universally suggest life is better after than before.  So godspeed and quick to heal.

Are you talking about Spiderman's November Hip replacement?

I have lost track if it is Both Knees and Both Hips now.
He would certainly be the one to ask. As soon, if not sooner, that Fit For Duty - BB is riding again.

Someone I know at home has now had both hips done. He went back to Gym ASAP and 6 weeks later he doing everything and more than he did before the surgery
A Positive Attitude and Daily Exercise Before and After the Surgery makes a big difference,

I had left side done about 7 1/2 years ago and the right side done a year and some change ago. The only advice I can give you is keep up on the meds and stay ahead of the pain. I slept in a recliner for about 4 weeks after the first hip. Rented a hospital bed for the second one. Was easier to sleep with knees elevated. Don't over do your therapy. Do what they tell you to do. I went back to work after the first hip procedure. 5 months total out of work. I was a Pipefitter / Welder. After the second one I retired. One of the things to be careful of is infection. Keep an eye on your wounds, there will be a visiting nurse for a couple of weeks right after your surgery and therapist. The one down fall of the pain meds is you get stopped up, bowel wise. This will pass ( no pun intended ). I did not have the anterior method done. But one of my nieghbors did. I noticed he was getting around alot faster than I did and he was about 10 years older than me. As for getting back in the saddle and riding, I pissed off every body and got back on the scoot about 5 or 6 weeks after the 2nd hip procedure. As long as you have the strength and balance to hold the bike up, go for it.......................Good Luck......Fuzz

Thanks for the tips guys, Fuzz I have been told about the infection issue and will watch it for sure.

A friend of mine had the same experience as you a year ago or so when his 71 year old sister was up and going only a few weeks after her hip, he was amazed since he is 59 and she recovered way faster having the anterior method.

Near as I can tell it all depends on your surgeons training, some do traditional and a very few do anterior although the anterior method has been used in Europe for years (1947) it is fairly new to the United States.

Do all the physio.  Do all the physio
After my uncle had his hip replaced, he did "aqua-therapy", basically physical therapy in a swimming pool.
He liked the idea that if his strength gave out, he couldn't fall down because he was in 4-5 ft of water.
I think he really liked the physical therapist with the swimsuit that showed off her "floaters"...

Sounds like a good benefit.

shoallow end side stepping is one of the recommended therapies, hadn't thought about who should administer it though.
