Passing Lamps
« on: March 24, 2013, 07:05:12 PM »

Harley came out with a part (5496) to keep the passing lamps on with the high beam. Has anyone used it and where does it plug in? Does the garage door opener work with it? I remember some people wiring the passing lamps to stay on but that stopped the garage opener from working.

I remember some folks having garage door opener problems but I thought that was after installing HID or LED headlamps, not the passing lamp harness. :nixweiss:

Anyhow, I'm attaching the instruction sheet for the kit to give you an idea of how it's installed.

Interested in this also. I posted similar question a while back did not get to many replies. The part #5496 looks like the Kuryakan number for the Independent Control Wire Harness @ $19.99. The Harley part number is 69200441 MSRP $29.95. I don't know if they are the same. The MOCO part number costs more.

I installed the HD version on my 07 SEUC along with LED's which required a separate harness, P/N 71628-04 (this was the P/N for '06-'10' year models), to route power to both the GDO and the cigar lighter. Simple install aside from pulling the fairing. Some people posted a while back that they replaced it without pulling the fairing but obviously I lack the dexterity. The connectors were tough to separate and in a tight location but I put some dielectric grease on them when installing the new jumper and they went back together easily.

I installed this on my 2013 SEUC. It is an easy install. Just plugs into the switch panel harness connector. You can get to the connector behind the fairing or by removing the switch panel. The passing lamps are now powered through the accessory circuit instead of the headlamps. The lamps will now be on if you have the ignition switch in the run or accessory position. Just turn off the spot lamp rocker switch to turn them off. Definitely adds more light to dark roads. The garage door opener still works properly.

 :pineapple:
I installed this on my 2012 Ultra, as well as the LED headlights.
Garage door still works, and I love having the passing lamps on always, man is it bright  ;D
Other drivers don't seem to like it much tho.

That's not necessarily something to brag about.  When one of those blinded drivers comes into your lane you might wish you had aimed those lights better and dimmed them in traffic.

YUP NOT too bright if you keep them on all the time, best used when alone on a DARK road.

I figured I had wrote that wrong after I hit the save button, I didn't mean I left the high beams on, I meant the LED's in general. I rarely use the high beams, but man when I do, they reach out there a long ways.

I can't tell much difference in high and low on the led head light, low is super bright and not much of a change when I turn it to high. I have the harness to keep the spots on also...no problems with it and it was easy to install, about 5-10 mins...
