Tool kit that came with the RK13
« on: May 17, 2013, 10:18:27 PM »

Peoples....Just a small question regarding the Tool Kit that came with the CVO RK13....Just had a look at mine for the first time. Having a clean out detail. Noticed the tool bag to be,,,,,Well,,,, a little worst for wear. Looks more like a tool bag from a 10 year old bike rather then a 5 month old 4000km bike. I never really paid to much attention to the tool kit...Of it's contents etc.  But looks to me like not only is sadly worn, but the contents are somewhat old and short on. Contents. 8 in 1 screw driver. Pocket of Allen keys. Lockgrip pliers. Shifting spanner, And a handful of zippy ties. Is this the correct contents. I had a quick look at it's contents when I purchased the bike. But didn't take alot of notice of it's contents.
I have a funny feeling my kit has been exchanged. Not that it's a big issue as the kit to me seems like a worthless piece of chit anyhows. But rather, the fact that my Bike has been tampered with whilst in the hands of my Dealer.
I would like to have my facts prior to charging in like a bull at a gate at my local dealer. The only place the Bike has been parked over night. Other then my house.

I can see where your coming from but its only a tool kit. However with a top off the range bike everything should be in a condition that it does not raise any concerns.
Has the tool kit been bouncing around in your saddle bag, this may have caused it to be in this condition.

If your not happy speak to the dealer and raise your concerns.

The tool kit is similar to starting a fire with a flint and striker, if that good.

If the bag looks that worn, I'd say they just stuck on in there from an older bike.  I'd say something to the dealer.  How much good that does is another topic.

Too funny!! Tonight i opened my tool kit for the first time. Installed a set of highway pegs and checked to see what size Allen keys were in there. I installed the pegs, then looked at bag and said to myself, chit! I must have stepped on bag
or something. But, then I thought i was going nuts- no way I could have. It was under the bike.
Shrugged it off as a weird thing I must have did but didn't know how. Bag had scuff and a small tear on it.

Saw this post and think we have the same issue.
My Cvo only has 80 miles. Hasn't been anywhere yet.

Will take a pic tomorrow. I'm in bed now!

Seems to be all intact as far as a Tool kit for a BMX bike is concerned. I'm guessing the bag may have weathered away from bouncing around over these chitty roads here..... :nixweiss:....Doubt it but. Gets mighty hot in them panniers I know. That hot after the first 200km of ownership it melted the 2 way tape that held the Amp in place.... :confused5:...So I'm guessing if 2 way tape is used on a CVO to hold things in place. I couldn't imagine that HD would give out a decent lasting tool bag.. :soapbox: Should count myself lucky I guess. When you by a base Harley, you don't get a $20 Tool kit thrown in with the deal..... ;D

The tool kit i received was in good shape. After riding around for some time the bag began to look worn down. So i wrapped in an old t-shirt and that helped out alot. I also placed other things in it too, like lock tight, flash light, tire repair kit,  and some other small items i found useful.

Check this out. I have the complete tool kit. One of those things that you look at and say money well spent! Their saddle bag liners are by far the best on the market also.

If you want a useful tool kit with good quality tools, you will need to buy one from a reputable company and forget the crap Harley provides.  The entire idea of a tool kit being included with a vehicle purchase is a throwback to ancient times, but instead of just eliminating the thing like the automotive industry did ages ago, Harley continues with the "tradition".  They know it's useless to most modern day customers, but they throw in the cheapest crap they can find rather than alienate the traditionalists.  Many modern day riders wouldn't have a clue about what to use a real tool kit for, and people who actually know how to work on the bikes tend to have much better tools already.

It is kind of telling how Harley includes zip ties in the tool kit.  That's exactly what I'd want to hold my bike together if something falls off while out on the road.  The least they could have done is throw in a roll of duct tape. ;)

I believe the tool kit was changed for 13.  The tool kit in my 09 and then the one still in my Skunk were the same.  The one in my 13 King is different the material is much less quality and seems to be less tools.  That said I have rarely ever used my tool kits.

For what this thread is worth, HD CVO's have stayed the same over the years!  The 2003 RK is the same price as the 2013.  You've got to cut somewhere!  My biggest complaints would be losing the 2 person production & the gold key, I realize we don't need keys except to lock, but it was nice and had more value than the Coin??

I have got a few gold Keys so not having it is not that big a deal to me.  Coin or Key not much difference to me in value.  Now I do agree loosing the special production line, with only two people building the bike is a loss.  My 09 was the last year of the non production line, two man team CVO's.
