Damn King, had no idea you were not speeding down the road to recovery. Seems like when life dumps, there is no end that can be seen. Sounds like you are progressing well, never give up. Get out there and do some more Mods to that scooter!!
Not to make light of your situation, but I have an official USDA Oxycontin disposal recepticle with me at all times.......just call.

Too funny.
Truth is I have about 150+/- of the 15mg ms contins sitting in the bottles. Enough for someone else to become dependant/addicted to them.
I'm another 2 days clean of the morphine. I'm still popping the oxycodones though. I need something to curtail the pain.
Like I said previously that's my next nightmare to kick.
I won't be doing that one cold though.
I do have a pain management company that I've been seeing before they got the mri they wanted to take me off the narcotics and put me on  muscle relates now that they've seen the mris they usually offer me more.
I'm sure they'll help me kick this other monster.
Thanks everyone!

I don't post much, just lurk through my hubby (Miker). I don't know if you're aware, but one of the side effects of Oxycodone withdrawal IS back pain. Makes it hard to kick the meds when it causes the same problem you started taking them for. I hope this info is helpful. Addiction/dependence is a vicious monster that is even harder to fight when you're not feeling well. Best wishes on your recovery.

FWIW be watchful of who knows of your hard meds. Folks have been known to do some very nasty things to get their hands on them. Best of luck!

I did notice one of the withdraw symptoms of the morphine is also back pain.
Next month I'm going to try to ween off these  oxycodones. I can't even imagine how I'm going to kick those.
I've read the horror stories and don't really want to go the methadone way. That's just substituting one addictive drug for another.
Thanks.

Not too many people know that I take them, so I should be safe. I also keep them in a locked room out of site.

Many years ago my oldest brother had a MC crash and had 5 compound fractures on one leg from the knee down. Obviously it was painful and he was on some wicked pain meds for a long time, like years.

I can attest that it is possible to get un-addicted. Early one morning, 3:00 AM, he called me and said that he just needed to get off them. He was kind of freaked out!

He was crabby as all get out, in pain etc.. But he stuck with it and before you knew it he was clean as a whistle.

His favorite saying was "it's only a little time to give up and I've got plenty to spare".

Stay strong and I hope you heal up fast.

I can relate to that and that is exactly why I'm doing this,  I can't stand the feeling. Every time I'm a few minutes late taking the dam things I start to feel the withdraw effects. After I take it, it's like a half hour before it goes away. The feeling is enough to make anyone miserable. I never did opiates except a few 10/325 percoset which were from the dentist. Now after being on the stronger stuff I still just don't see the initial draw to do this stuff for recreational proposes. Now I would love to indulge in some good weed, always loved it when I was younger. It actually suppressed my anxiety back then and has a more useful purpose then the opiates, besides being non addictive!  Unfortunately it's not worth the risk in this state. Now they take your $hit in NJ,
Anyways, my goal is to become drug free within the next 2 months without doctor intervention or alternate meds.
Month 1-ween, twice. I want to go from 60+/-15mgs a day to 30mgs per day
Month 2-ween, once from 30mgs per day to 0 hopefully. I may need another step in there but I will test the waters first. I'll post my progress as I go.
I might be biting off more than I can chew but I'm going to give it my all.

20 days off the morphine.
Still having the withdraw symptoms though. No fun at all.
Sticking with it because I believe I have it kicked.
Next month I start the oxycodone weaning. Not looking forward to that one. I heard it's worse.

Sounds like you are working it well. When it feels like there is no way, just shoot for one more day. You can do it and will have a much better life for it!! Good Luck and keep your head high.

Update:
Went to the doctors office yesterday for my monthly.
I got to see the main doctor there. I've heard nothing but great things about this guy and he's the
reason I went there.
He didn't seem to think it was a good idea that I stop taking the morphine.
He actually told me why, finally.
I'm told I have  several rsds' (if your unsure of what it is, Google will tell you) in various places on my foot and on my leg. I have severe nerve damage from the accident. My toe bones are fused and there's no fix for any of this. My Back is still the same no improvement.
He tells me that I'm going to be seeing him for a while, probably well beyond my cases end. He also tells me that in 10 years or so the pain is going to be a lot worse than it is now.
He did ask if I was riding again, I confessed. Needless to say he wasn't thrilled with my response. I told him the ride is better than being in a car and completely understood how that could be , surprisingly.
So I guess after all the withdraw I'm supposed to go back on the morphine. ?.
He did reduce the dose to 2xs a day though.
I was planning to be drug free by the end of July, not so sure now.

What r ur thoughts on the re intake of the morphine?

As I'm sure you are aware, some Doctors are better than others. Bottom line is they are all better at helping a sick person than the average Joe. Now is not the time to question his advice, but to follow it. Sounds like you have a long road to recovery and I wish you the best.

Your strength to fight the morphine is commendable but you went to the doctor for his advice. Sounds like you're still pretty banged up.

I'd say follow the doctors advice and remember that when it comes time to quit the morp for good that you already know you have the inner strength to do it.

Keep the faith!

It sounds like your doctor is believes that pain management is going to be part of your life long term.  Addiction to pain medications like oxycodone and morphine can be as debilitating as the pain itself with some people.  If you feel uncomfortable or unsure about managing your situation with these pain medications, be all means seek out other options.  There are many forms of pain management other than these addicting medications.  If this is going to be a long term issue, you are going to want a solution that does not become larger than the initial problem.  There are doctors that specialize in nerve damage and other doctors that specialize in pain management, and they typically not one and the same.  I'd be honest with your concerns with your current doctor and ask for recommendations for a pain management specialist that can work in conjunction with your current guy....  And good luck...

With a lot of reluctance and after getting a lot of opinions, I have restarted the morphine. I have noticed that I don't seem to need the oxycodone as much, the down side is I'm extremely tired all the time again. I wasn't this tired while I was off of it but I did have more breakthrough pain. Like a double edged sword.
The other draw back to this besides being lazy and tired I'm afraid to jump on the bike in far that I may drop it.

I refuse to miss another riding season dam it.

Man, I feel for you, King.  I'm going through opiate withdrawal right now myself, from hip-replacement surgery this past March 25th.  I have RA, and it's a bitch.  Situation for me is, I am a recovering addict.  I HAVE to live with the pain, or I'll be a dead man.  I love the euphoria from opiates, but I cannot live with the consequences that come with that euphoria.  I am in no way implying you are like me, but I don't care who you are, there is no worse withdrawal, than opiate withdrawal.  Withdrawal from booze and coke was a walk in the park, compared to this chit.  I wish you the best.  Just be careful, my friend.  That chit has no mercy.  There endeth the lesson.  Later--HUBBARD
