I'm looking to buy a new truck. 4x4 4-door V-8.

Ford no longer has the 5.4. They have a 5.0 and a 6.2. Tundra has a 5.7. The local Toyota dealer is offering a lifetime power train warranty. Ford has the history of a solid truck but Toyota has a history of reliability.

Anybody have one of these to comment on?

I don't tow and I'm just needing a solid 4x4 truck for the snow and misc hauling (lumber, trees and the wife's stuff)

I've owned Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Dodge Ram and Toyota.  I rate them like this:

Heavy Duty Trucks: 3/4 ton or 1 ton  (Diesel)

1. Chevrolet/GMC
2. Dodge
3. Ford

Light Duty Trucks: 1/2 ton  (Gas)

1. Toyota
2. Dodge
3. Chevrolet/GMC
4. Ford

PS:  I had a Red 2007 Toyota Tundra that was a blast to drive, fast and if you are not careful it will create speeding tickets!

My brother has the Tundra after owning Ford's all his life.  He wouldn't give up his Tundra for all the Ford's in the world.    I have the Tacoma 4X4 and in my opinion the quality is far superb to anything that Ford has over produced.

They also have the 6cyl Ecoboost engine and will take almost any stock V8 on the market today. It's fast and has lots of torque for pulling.

The Ecoboost is having a TON of problems right now with complaints about losing power when accelerating.

Yep Judy, I heard the same thing.  I would get the biggest engine that I could, I've never owned anything with too much power!

I don't have the Eco in a truck but I do have one in an Lincoln MKS. OMG fast and good mileage to boot. Ford got it right on this one. If they ever make it in V8, they will have the ultimate truck. If you don't mind buying a lot gasoline, take your pick. If you want power and economy get the Eco. I drive a 4x4 150 with 5.4 Whipple supercharged, just over 400 hp at the wheels. It also only gets 15 mpg! I wish I had the Eco instead.
Since towing is likely the hardest work your truck will ever do, read up on them in the camper towing forums. Then just go test drive each and take your pick. They all have their own nice features.

I have had 3 Ford F150 King Ranch trucks over the last 9 years and have loved them all 
Zero problems, only reason i changed them was our company policy is to change all vehicles after 3 years
We have over 50 motors in our fleet from various brands and year on year the F150 proves to be the cheapest to maintain 
If money is not a factor, go for the 6.2 Raptor! its amazing! 411 HP and 434 lb Torque!!!
Not good on fuel but thats not a problem as its only $1.70 a Gallon in Dubai!

I'm currently driving a 10 Tundra.  Back in spring of 09 I suddenly needed to replace a pickup and when I went to order a new Chevy as I had done with every truck since 1978, they treated me like chit.  Sure, GM was having some issues and inventories were all screwed up.  But they basically acted as if they had the last trucks GM was ever going to build and I could take it or leave it.  What they did, was stop me from being a repeat purchaser and turned me into a shopper.  All new trucks are sweet, and they are all well built these days.  Well almost all except for one brand.  What I found out was that the Toyota uses the most American labor in production.  And at the time Toyota was really trying to gain market share with the Tundra, so they were willing to deal.  I ended up getting an early 10 Tundra, June of 09.  It's been a good truck.  Being retired, I don't drive it as much as the previous ones.  And it's a little to decked out for me, I'm little hard on the luxury interior.  But it has more power than I can put to the ground, brakes to spare and rides better than my car. 

With the above said, what the hell is up with pickups.  I want a pick up, not a 5 ton chassis cab.  Why do they all feel the need to make them look like semi trucks from the front?  The bed sides are so high now that you need a ladder to reach anything in the bed.  I sure hope that the need to get 35 mpg brings the size of pickups back down to something reasonable.

I drive a F-150 Platinum with eco boost.  Looks great has a great ride and has plenty of power and dependable as heck.

I had a 2000 Toyota Tundra V8 put 100,000 on it never had a problem just did regular maintenance, Now have a 2012 Tacoma V6 20,000 on it.

I have the Eco Boost in a 2010 Lincoln MKT approx. 345 HP on the highway consistently getting 20 mpg, when I open up the turbos it is still good. Friends have the Eco Boost in their F150s, never heard of the problems with their engines.

Have a 2003 Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Pick Up with the 5.4 Supercharger, that thing really hauls.

in this part of the world "dirty oil country" lol,lol there are more Ford Trucks actually doing work rather than sitting pretty in driveways than anywhere else in Canada.
