paint scheme on 04 Electra Glide
« on: June 09, 2013, 08:35:30 AM »

I just purchased an 04 Screamin' Eagle Electra Glide, blue/black and the paint has some differences to it.  The areas that are suppose to be black appear as almost purple and instead of "Harley Davidson" painted on the tank "Screamin' Eagle" is painted there.  The basic design appears to be the same, color, script etc.  I love the bike and would never get rid of it.  When I questioned the guy that I bought it from he said that a very limited number came with this change.  Has anyone ever heard of this or is this another story of a sucker being born??? If so, I'll repaint rather then misrepresent. All other indicators are there, (various CVO badges etc.) Thanks for any and all help.

Are you sure it's not a clone CVO?  Back when that bike was new, there was a dealer near me that was selling Electra Glides with "custom paint", very very similar, but not identical to Screamin Eagle Electra Glide paint schemes...  Same primary colors with subtle changes.

Can you post some photos of your new bike?

Man, that would suck!  I think I got a fair deal but it would really piss me off it's not the real thing.  It has all the bells and whistles but is there anything in the VIN that denotes CVO?

Well, that's there.  I feel a little better. But the black almost looks purple.  I know I'm getting older and I did have a few last night but damn, in the sun it looks purple.  Is that what the "starlight black looks like?

I'm trying to upload pics........So what is it? A repaint?  The motor is silver, the VIN has the proper prefix.  It's the purple that throws me.  It doesn't really show in pics but when you see it in the sun it just looks like a dark purple. Anything on this?  It seems like a lot of effort and money to change a color.

The starlight black does have a tiny hint of purple in it. That what makes it different from the black on the 04 o/ b.  Maybe it was resprayed. And the guy did a crummy job. I think the o/b called it jet black.  It is different.

I agree.  That's why I originally questioned the authenticity of the model.  If the VIN and rest of the bike indicates the bike is a true SEEG, then I'd wonder if it was dropped and required paint and lettering.  Otherwise, why go to the expense?   :nixweiss:

The good news is .... It's a SEEG.  Someone did some paint work on it, though. :-\
