Hey guys and girls, Its been a while since I have posted, but I have a few questions for the group.  I am still overseas and wont be home till December and need to line up a project for when I get back.  I am thinking about adding LED accent lighting to the FLHTCUSE3 but dont know if I should.  What is your opinions.  Do you think they have been overplayed or bad?  Or do you like them, and if you do, can you recommend any particular brand or style?

Thanks

Glenn

Hey Glenn,  I had Lizard lights on my older SG and wasn't happy with them.  If you look at the light strips the little lights stick out on the strip attached by a wire.  Everytime I washed my MC my wash rag would accidentally rub them and it bends the lights on the wire.  Bending them back continuously weakens the wire.  After purchasing my new MC I talked to my mechanic and he advised and suggested Kuryakyn.  All the light pods are contained in a sealed pod.  They are durable and very bright.  I am very happy with them!  Not cheap but neither were the Lizard lights.

I have them on mine.  They were fun for about a month or so.  They change colors stobe and fade in and out.   Only turned them on when I was at a bike night when there were a few hundred bikes or on large poker runs.  Forget that I even have them now.  I need to get some video or pics and post them.  You either like it or hate it.  Wish now I would have spent that money else where to be completly honest.

I put chameleon lights by monster brite.  Lights are great lights haven't had any problems with them at all.   They are not cheap.  I think I have around 600.00 in them.

I have several "pods" from Custom Dynamics. All dark red on a 2011 ultra-eletra glide and blue on a 2003 heritage soft tail classic. Love them both. Would do it again.

Had a set on my shelf for 3 years, just can't bring myself to put them on. Got to agree, to me they look cheezy.

I never have my bike out much at night to use them. Don't like the look myself.

I don't have them but have considered them. I am a big believer in being seen easily, especially at night. First time I noticed them was on a bike about a hundred yards away and I would have never known there was a bike there except for those blue led's he had around his engine. So I have been debating just putting a couple in strategic areas to reflect off the engine/chrome and to provide more night time visibility of me, especially from a side view

May want to check with your state inspection or state police before using the LED accent lights on the road. Many states won't allow them and they are considered for off-road or parking lots type use only. You might be able to use the saddlebag side LEDs or the ones that mount on bottom of passenger floorboards and act as marker lights when folded. Adding extra lights like Motolights can also help with visibility to others since they move from side to side and up and down when the forks are moved.
Otherwise you have to rely on the shininess of the chrome to flash in oncoming traffic's headlights or those reflectors that many members are so quick to remove...  :huepfenlol2:
I'm sure those owners who ride the all black bikes have the most close calls at night due to not being seen by others.

I don't mind bikes with LEDs and some look great, I just don't do much hanging around bars or night time hangouts in parking lots for them to be useful to me.

It's your bike, do what you like and want.  Those are very customizable, and there a many different ways to go. Our bikes draw attention to them for what they are.  Everything else is up to you.

I love mine. Got red ground effects and yellow (not amber) on the engine. Guys tell me it looks like fire from a distance. Never had any problems with LEO and I'm sure they've seen me. One thing you need to be sure of is that you do not have forward or rear facing blue or red lights. That's a no-no everywhere.
Like your bike, it's about your likes - don't likes. For me GPS & cup holders on a bike are nuts ,,, but lights  :bananarock: JMO
