Don,
If you didn't have either now which would you choose? Any others that are more up on this stuff can add in also. I'm still trying to figure which is going to be the best bang for my buck. I'm mainly interested in the GPS features (do like the Bluetooth stuff, but mostly wear a half helmet so not really sure if that would be applicable) any of the other feature(s) would be a plus.

d00d...I've got the 2820 which looks the same as the 26xx or 27xx series. It has all the functions of the Zumo, but of course is shaped differently. One advantage I see to the 28xx is the screen is wider...personally, I like the wider map, and the data blocks on the right side of the wider display. The Zumo screen is more "square", which might also have an advantage by showing more of what's ahead instead of what's beside. The other advantage to the Zumo is the battery backup (even if short lived), so the unit would stay on and operating when the power supply is switched off on the ignition. On the 26,27, 28xx units, when you switch off the unit goes down, and when you switch back on, it has to boot up again...takes about 30 seconds to a minute, depending on how easy the satellites are found. One thing I like about both units is the MP3 player...that comes in handy when you want her to talk to you, but listen to music when she's not telling you to turn. The Bluetooth...even though I do not talk on the phone while riding, I do pair my phone up to the unit....in that way, the unit will still tell me that I have a call, and I can view the call and see if it's important enough to stop and return...rarely the case, as usually it can wait until the next gas stop, if then. It might let you know if there's some kind of emergency though, and you need to stop...case in point would be a group ride and someone gets lost or goes down...somebody could call you and you'd know what was happening, so you could stop or turn around and help.
The shape of the two units might be something to consider...how it will mount, and how much it will intrude/block the view of the dash...as mine was (before chaning the bars...havn't remounted it yet) it just covered the view of the Air Temp Guage, which we all know is a worthless POS anyway...if I had the Zumo in the same location, it might have obstucted the fuel guage a bit. Those things can all be accomodated, depending on what mounting system you use.
Now....are you even more confused? Buying one of these things is like getting a computer...they will always be coming out with something better in 6 months, so waiting gets you nowhere. I'm happy with my 2820...if I was looking, it would be a toss-up between it and the Zumo. The thing that would make a difference to me is how they each would mount to the bike's bars. I would not even consider ever putting a hole in the dash for a mount. JMO....
