hi Folks... I havent posted this here until now as I had thought this was isolated to punks in Hawaii.

However... on 1 July 2013 Our home was broken into.

here is the text of the ad I posted on CL:

Sometime during the day on Monday July 1 2013, our home was broken into, and Jewelry (Hawaiian Bracelets) and Harley Davidson Watches made by Bulova were stolen, along with lots of Harley-Davidson memorabilia.

The Hawaiian Bracelets were 4,6,8 and 10mm and were all engraved DMLL on the inside. On the outside was either LOKELANI or DAWNIE.

There was also a Hawaiian ID bracelet with the same markings.
 
5 stone marquis cut diamonds on simple setting, very sentimental and has little to no cash value.

Harley Watches: 100th anniversary Harley watch with leather band and a flip face that exposes the movement. This was one of 1000 made.
 
The second was Harley's skeletal design with stainless band. Orange bar and shield inside, and crystal faces front and back. Very NICE watch as this was worn ONCE!
 
The third was a stainess watch with stainless band and an orange face.
 
Harley Stop watch, model 76A03, no chain, with leather pouch.
 
110th anniversary ZIPPO lighter, NEW IN BOX
 
HOG Stereo Headphones, with soft case: USED ONCE. Stenciled with "Harley Owners Group" across the band and HOG logo on each speaker pod.

AND I CANT CLAIM THE EMBARGO CIGARS... DAMMNIT.

Now... I wasnt expecting to see this stuff again....

But the ad on CL was to see if anyone would take the bait.

Today, at just before 7am hawaii time I get a call from a number with a MO Area Code. The caller said his name was Larry and he was in Milwaukee. He caught my voicemail and his call is recorded.

When I returned his call, he indicated he was in Hawaii recently for Anniversary and that he had bought everything from some a couple and another guy... skinny guys. For the sum of $375.

He asked me to describe the items but did not reveal any info. I asked him if he would be willing to snap a pic of the items... he refused. Said he didnt want to get into trouble.  (he already is)

I indicated I had no intention of pursuing charges against him. I just want my stuff back...

Now... lots of back and forth but he wont do anything to prove he actually has the stuff.

What I'm looking for is someone that may be able to ping the cell phone to see where it is.

I was also able to backtrace the cell number and have a name with MO info. FYI the name he used is NOT the same name the number is registered to.

If someone can help I'd appreciate it.

He is either trying to scam me... or has my stuff but is very stupid.

As you said "SCAM". Most of these type of replies are, as you well know. But what the hell, keep giving him line. You NEED a pic. Regretfully, pretending like you have someones property is not against the law. Maybe we have some law enforcement members that could help you with a backtrace.

I am sure you already have,  but turn all of the information in to your investigating officer. They will be able to "reach out" to the police department that is local to the number who will in turn, squeeze his scrotum to either get your stuff and more info to help catch the perpetrator or change his mind about doing this type of scam to anyone else....ever.

417-619 area code and exchange actually is for Springfield in SW Missouri rather than St. Louis in NE Missouri.  Couple hundred miles apart.  Though with number portability the city exchange information isn't an absolute anymore.

A very quick check, however, showed the number as still belonging to Springfield.  That happens to be just an hour away from me.  Can get in to it a bit if you'd like.

Could be the "chithead" is located where the area code/exchange his phone belongs to is there and just searching craigslist adds for the opportunity for a scam or maybe they aren't.

I'm already out the damage to the house, a weeks worth of fixing crap, my wife spent a week doing laundry after they tossed all our clothes all over the floor!

I'm not willing to just send $500 to someone on the phone that wont even snap a pic of the items he says he has.

Keep it simple.  Call the guy back.  Tell him you can see the number he's calling from is probably Springfield, MO and that you've got a friend only an hour away.  Then ask what public place in Springfield we can meet to see the stuff.  I'd even apologize for the overweight charges he probably had to pay the airline to bring all the stuff home just to sniff him out more.
