Has anyone ever changed their fuel filter in the gas tank ?  my H/D shop says no need to or don't do it until about 50,000 miles said never has seen one stopped up enough to make bike not run correct ? Cost big dollars to change out  when theirs no need in change it ?

The filter costs about $17, and the gasket for the access plate is about $7.  So far I don't see the "big dollars".  As for labor, it's not difficult to do it yourself, but even if you pay a shop to do it I can't imagine it costing more than an hours worth of their labor.

Anyhow, Harley recently changed the recommended service interval for the fuel filter to 100k miles, starting with the 2012 models.  There was no change made to the actual filter, so I'm guessing they agree with your shop that it really isn't such a big deal after all.  On the older models the problem really wasn't the filters clogging up anyway, it was the internal fuel lines developing holes  The filter kits came with a new line.  Late model bikes don't seem to have that problem anymore.

Beat me to it.  It's not a terribly difficult job to do, you just need to be careful getting the locking ring off.  If whatever you're using to drive it loose slips, there's going to be ugliness on your tank.  Unless you're using a lot of questionable gas, I wouldn't worry about it until 100k.  I changed mine at 25k on my 2010 FLHTK.  It took about an hour, and the filter looked pretty good.  Now that I've done it once, I could probably do it again in about 30 minutes.  It's way, way easier than the type I have in my Softail.

I've changed mine twice, each time at 25K.

I ran into the problem with the hole in the internal line.  was on a trip.  thought i got some bad gas.  filled it up and put some "heat" in the tank.. ran fine.  thought i was good to go, but then once the fuel level dropped below the level of the hole in the line, started running like chit again.   the good folks at the missoula, mt HD shop had me fixed and out the door in no time.  and the cost was not very much as i remember.
