Tour pak adjustment
« on: August 03, 2013, 07:35:27 PM »

I have read a lot of posts on tour pak adjustments. I was close to ordering the George Anderson kit. Then I found this on Kuryakyn. Part # 8973

Any one use this? Pros and cons?

Early models of the Kuryakn could not be used on bikes with the stereo amp under the Pak. I think that has been fixed on later versions. Some members like it. I have never heard a complaint about the quality or customer service of George Anderson's bracket. George is very easy to deal with and he will ship it to you before you send him payment. One thing to remember is his product is American made.
I had a George Anderson bracket on my 2006 and would buy another one anytime it's needed.

Just got my Kuryakyn Adjustable trunk relocator in the mail today.  Will install and try tomorrow.  My buddy in Illinois just took a trip through the Smoky Mountains with his attached and he said he and his wife enjoyed it's extra room, and that it performed flawlessly.  He also relayed that is was about a 25 minute install and that everything went together perfectly.  I'll advise further upon my return from Banff, Canada; round trip from Anaheim, California with mine installed. I'm 6'5" and 308, while my wife is about 5'8" and about 220.

I will also be trying the set of Kuryakyn adjustable passenger foot pegs I installed today.  Ridiculously easy install.  About 10 minutes with only 2 different allen wrenches.  I had a set of these on my Anniversary Road King and the wife enjoyed them.  I expect the same for these.

Thanks. Let me know how those footpegs work out as well. I had seen those and am thinking that may be next, if need be

I've had one installed for a couple of years, my wife likesvthecextra room, it wiggles in the wind when I ride solo, not sure if I installed it incorrectly or just the way it is.

Got the Kuryakyn Adjustable Passenger FootPeg set installed in about 20 minutes using the tools from the kit that came with the Harley.  The only thing I can say, which becomes obvious during the install, is to put the upper bracket in place first.  This makes aligining the plastic retaining clip much easier to position correctly.  Then put all of the bolts & washers in their respective holes in the lower bracket and screw them all together and you are done.  Very simple install and seem to be at least as strong as the one I had on my '03 Road King for the last 10 yrs.  I HIGHLY recommend these adjustable pegs.  My wife has chronic hip pain and she raves about them the whole trip.

The trunk adjustable relocating bracket was likewise a breeze.  I put the bike up on it's stand to keep it level, cushioned the trunk when I laid it forward where the seat had been, and the whole thing just fit together. Took me about 45 minutes, and most of that was disassembly and finalizing the re-fit.  Everything just kinda fell in to place.  I am a chronic over-tightener, so I suck with the screwdrivers and 1/4" drive tools.  The trunk works great in all ways possible.

If anything goes wrong between here and Canada, I'll report on it, but it all seems solid and very functional.

I have the Kuryakyn adjustable rack on my 13 CVO and it works great! I am not crazy about the looks of it but it did do the trick and make the wife happy!

I had previously installed the Kuryakyn kits on all of my other Ultras with no problems at all.

Lynyrd you need to get to work! Wish I could join you on that ride to Canada!

Which footpegs / part # did you use? I am looking for my '13 ultra and don't see any part numbers listed for that bike yet? Thanks

Can we see some pics of kuryakyn set up.  I would like to see some shots down by the amp connector.  Just wondering how close it is to the bracket.

And if I could get the part number of it also.

Thanks Todd

On my 13 CVO I did not touch the amp at all when I installed the Kuryakyn relocation bracket. On the Kuryakyn website they have about a 10 minute video that shows how to install the relocation kit. It is as simple and easy as Lynryd says it is.

Does anyone else's TP vibrate/wiggles when riding solo, when the TP is set all the way back?

The george anderson kit.  Is a well made one piece unit that you can't tell it is even on the bike. I looked at a Kury & decided it was not for me. Just returned from a 7600 mile ride & wife loved the extra room. You dont have to make any mods to use George's unit & it is made in the USA.

I just took a scrap 1/4" aluminum plate from a local metal shop, cut it out with a jig saw, tapped 4 holes and drilled the other 4 holes and I'm done. I did paint it black just to help keep it hidden.
Total cost = $10
Total time = around 1 hour

Works great, very strong and light.

Sorry about the delay response everyone.  Been down with a "Summer Flu" of all things.  I didn't even know such a thing existed!

First, I agree with the "Buy American" from George Anderson as put forth by PosseRider.  I'm all about that, but I need more than a fixed position.  My wife is not small, so I need it all the way back to literally keep her off my back.  We ride a lot of long rides; 3-5 thousand miles per trip.  When she is not on, I like the trunk all the way forward which gives a better weight distribution than even the stock position for better cornering.  Forward an inch from stock is actually quite noticeable on fast, tight corners.  If a fixed position is right for you, by all means buy American.

Anyway, Tweeter13; the Küryakyn Tour Pack Relocation Kit is part number 8973 for my 2013 CVO Ultra Classic Anniversary.  ABSOLUTELY no mods made.  It bolts off, bolts back on & your done.  I bought mine from Amazon.com and got it for $215.99 and it arrived 2 days later.  4 bolts off the floor of the trunk and it is off.  Roll it forward to where the seat was, on to a blanket to protect it and be darn sure it won't fall off.  2 wire ties are cut and can be replaced before putting the seat back on.  4 bolts on the black amp bracket, which is flat and secure with nothing to work around, and in about 2 minutes of ratchet time that part is done.  Push a bolt through a hole in the bottom of the trunk and start bolting the slide brackets down.  Line them up as instructed (mine landed in place!) and tighten the bolts.  Slide the parts together and adjust the 4 throw levers for tightness, be careful not to over-tighten these.  They don't need much to secure the trunk.  Reassemble everything and you are done.  I can't even see the part unless I look closely.  Those who know will spot it, but it looks like the stock chrome support bracket to anyone else.  About 20 minutes with my 1/4" ratchet and 7/16 socket and end wrench and a phillips screw driver for the seat and seat strap. Done.

DoubleRunner; Küryakyn adjustable passenger footpegs are part number 4505.  Got them on Amazon for $153.99 and they arrived in 2 days too.  They literally come out of the box and plastic wrapping, sandwich the Küryakyn parts around the existing adjustable arm coming off of the frame and tighten the bolts.  They will more-or-less line themselves up as you tighten the 4 bolts.  Three of the bolts are one size and the forth another.  Add the footpeg for each side, adjust and tighten.  Done.  Maybe 10 minutes, if you have all of your tools out.  VERY solid too.  Used them on my 03 Road King Classic for 10 years with great success.

Chief2505; is that you R Howard?  Canada is calling! But first salmon fishing in Washington with dad & his crew & the family.  I wish you were going too.  Can't be on the bike 100% of the time, but I know you try!!
Tweeter13; didn't get any pictures & I'm packed for Canada so I can do that when I get back, unless someone else can help with that.  There was no involvement with an amp or amp connector, at all.
Supershooter; I put the pack forward, so I don't know if it would rattle all the way back when 1 up.  It adjusts so fast that I push it forward whenever I get solo.
Thanks for the wishes Grizzly.  Rain or shine, it's better than work!
GeogiaCVOrider; That's basically what George Anderson did, and yours is Made in America too.  Can't beat the price or pride of self-fabrication!

Back to you all in September!
