Stock CD player and MP3s
« on: August 18, 2013, 03:53:39 PM »

Anyone else like to burn mp3s to a disk and play them on the stock HK unit.
Here's my question for those that do.
Can you play more that 40 or 60 songs?

I burn over 100 songs to a disk in mp3 file format.  This works Great but, the player stars the disk over before it gets to the last of the songs.  The same disc works in my car all the way through.
Its no big deal just wondering.

I have a disc with something like 120 songs on it. My bike plays it fine. When it gets to 50 or so I wouldn't notice if it started over though. I'm pretty sure I've seen the counter over 100.

I have 147 on one CD. Leave it on Random, have no idea if I have heard all the songs.

I found that mine wouldn't play any songs I added after the intial burn.  What I mean is, when I made a disk with, say, 60 songs, then went back and added 20, the bike would only read the original 60.  That was on my '09.  I haven't had a disk in my '11.

Big Lew, if you don't have RW CD's to burn, you can only burn them once.  If they have the RW at the end of the disc description from the CD manufacturer, that tells you they are re-writable discs.  Some of the RW discs are not as easy or universal to play in "all" players though.

I may not have understood your post exactly though.

I too have burnt over 120 songs and they all play great with the exception of not being able to read the title of the song on the display.

Didn't even think about that.  Probably what it was.  I don't even keep discs around the house anymore.  The one I did make, I left in the radio when I traded the bike.  That's $0.99 I'd like to have back.

A guy who I worked with years ago burned his mp3 to a DVD and got lots more songs on one disk.  I tried it with no luck it didn't play at all.
Anyone know how to do this?

First off, as you know, your bike CD player will not read your DVD.

Both CD and DVD use tracks similar to a record, but read from inside diameter to outside rather than ouside to inside as a record does.  But that's not why, just rambling here a bit.

The CD has wider tracks and uses a wider based laser to read them.  A DVD has many more tracks and are a lot narrower, hence the higher capacity than a CD.  The DVD laser head is a finer narrower laser and it reads without any issues the DVD's.  From my very limp grey cells, I believe one uses a red laser and the other uses a blue laser.  Can't remember which is which though, it really doesn't matter for this question though.

Most all DVD players are dual compatible, but automotive CD players are just that, CD players.  There are "some" very new auto head units that can read DVD's, but with all the new screen technology they are limited to play while standing still only.  There can be no movie per say playing on your dash while driving.  I'm not sure about some high end aftermarket head units, they may play DVD's as well.

Sorry you're not going to be able to play a DVD burned with music on your CD in your bike.

Hope I didn't ramble too much...

About 125 on the disc in the radio now.  But also on random.  No clue if some aren't played.  Ride with the radio off most of the time anyway.  Prefer the sounds of the ride and the road.

actually, that isn't entirely true.  if you don't finalize the burn, you can go back and add tracks later.  some decks can read the disks without being finalized, others can't.  i have no idea on the hk one, never tried.

the reason that your deck is skipping some songs is because it has artwork embedded into it.  the hk deck is not compatible with id3 tags.  so if you have some mp3s with id3, convert, or strip, the tag first.  then it will play.

Thank you Dan_Lockwood
That answers does answer my question.  This guy is a computer hack and I am sure why he did it was just to transfer more songs on one disk from computer to computer.

Ekim60,

I guess I've never tried to stop a burn in progress.  All of my hardware does the finalizing as an auto function of the burn to disc process.

I'll look harder next time and see what I can do to stop it before it finalizes.

Thanks for the information.

dan, you aren't really 'stopping' it while in progress.  it's called multi-session.  there is usually some type of check box or something like that.  when i used to use nero, you selected it at the start of your session.  you would select the multi session option, as opposed to single session.  but, i haven't done that in quite a while, and i haven't used nero in ages, so not sure how you would do it now.
