Brian,
I started the install of the TP mounting bracket #53276-09A and the docking hardware #54205-09 and couldn't get the TP bracket to close all the way and latch. The TP bracket hit the top surface of the docking hardware before the TP bracket could close completely and latch. I took both back to the dealer and told him the situation and showed him what was happening and I suggested that maybe one of the parts was not the right one and had been labeled wrong but he said that couldn't happen and all he did was refund my money and say he was sorry. I also couldn't attach the docking hardware without removing the chrome frame covers.
Could you possibly take some pictures of your setup and post them here so I could see what your setup looks like.
I certainly would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Lars
I finished the detachable TP and love it. I ended up returning the 53276-09A and 54205-09, and instead installing the 53246-09A kit (approx $550) with license plate holder included, even though I didn't and still do not like the way the license plate looks on the bike. The plan is to find a better solution for the license plate holder as time permits.
The 53276-09A and 54205-09 should still work, but it will leave you without a way to mount your antenna (use 76000513 Boom Hidden Antenna kit instead), and without a license plate holder or bracket. The 54205-09 has "fixed" pins on the detachable bracket, and leaves no way to attach the brackets that hold the license plate holder.
You will need to remove the chrome frame covers and replace with the ones that they provide you in the kit (I assume you are referring to the chrome covers that arc around the sides of the rear fender where the detachable bracket goes.
I'm eyeing up the Arc Amp solution to put inside the fairing, which is where the factory should have placed an amp to begin with. For now, my amp is in the left saddle bag. I fiddled with the part of the wire harness that leads to the amp and was able to shape it so the saddle bag lid closes over the harness without any issues, and prevented me from cutting holes or rewiring as a temporary solution, until the Arc amp is bought and installed in the fairing.
As mentioned in our email, give me a call and I'll walk you through the whole process and send pix. Making the tourpak detachable is a very simple install - you won't need to pay anyone to do this, it's that easy.
