New CVO Owner - Windshield question
« on: September 05, 2013, 11:01:25 AM »

Hey all. Just picked up a 2012 CVO Ultra last Thursday.  It's both my first CVO and first Ultra Classic.  My other big is a Road King Classic.
I'm short (5'6") and just changed out the seat to a mustang low down, I figured who needs heated seats sitting on an HD anyway.  So now I need to change that stock windshield out and quickly. I was looking at the klock werks 3.5" but have read here that it won't fit the nav, I was also looking at the Memphis Shades 5" spoiler windshield... any suggestions?

Look at Freedom Shields b4 you buy. Best fit for me is top edge hits between lip and nose. Might not be your choice, but I will bet one of the Freedom Flips will be........they are that good.

You might want to check out the Clear View Windshields. Here is there web site http://www.clearviewshields.com/shop/harley-davidson/
I'm 5'9" and have the 6.5" recurve windshield. I did not care for the klockwerks windshield.

I'm running the Klock Werks on mine. It does touch the GPS, but not enough for me to worry about. 14K + miles without issue. I can take and post a picture of it when I go out for lunch.

Clearview, Freedom, Windvest...any good windshield that has the recurve on the top edge will do the job.  Measure carefully and buy it once...in your normal riding position, you want to be able to see over the windshield and be able to seen an object on flat ground that is about 50 feet in front of you.  That usually works out to be, as someone mentioned, between your mouth and your nose.  The recurve acts like a windshield that is 2" taller....it is ill advised to look through a windshield in normal riding position.

Most of the companies have instructions on their websites on how to measure...it's pretty critical to get it right.

Not sure what size it is, but if I had to guess I'd say in the 6" range. I picked it up a few years ago for my 2010 Ultra. The dealership had one that they special ordered for someone who said it didn't fit their bike. Didn't like it as much on my '10, but I do like it on the SE8.

What year is your bike and do the dimensions vary on the fairings from year to year?

Both inner and outer fairings are the same until the '14 model year.

BakedInMN,
That windshield looks perfect on that faring.  The style & curves really match.  Nice job!
